LAS VEGAS 7, SALT LAKE 5

The Las Vegas 51’s would rebound from a poor outing from starter Jacob deGrom in extra innings, as they defeat the Salt Lake Bees 7-5.  deGrom would have his worst outing of the season giving up five runs on 10 hits with just one strikeout.  The 51’s would trail in this one 5-2 heading into the 8th inning.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis would start the inning with a double and would score on a Allan Dykstra sacrifice fly.  Las Vegas would tie the game up in the ninth scoring two, and then would match that total giving them the win in the 10th inning.  The 51’s bullpen came in and shutdown the Bees allowing just one hit over five innings.  Zack Thorton would pick up his first win of the season and Vic Black would record his 4th save.  All but one Las Vegas starter would record a hit with Eric Campbell leading the way going 3-for-5 scoring three runs.  Logan Verrett is scheduled to make the start on Thursday for the 51’s.  (box score)

BINGHAMTON 6, NEW HAMPSHIRE 0

Losers of four straight heading into the game against New Hampshire on Wednesday, the Binghamton Mets were in desperate need of a good start from Greg Peavey.  They didn’t get a good start.  They got an amazing start.  Peavey threw a complete game 2-hit shutout with no walks and six strikeouts.  The Fisher Cats were only able to get a single in the fourth and a single in the fifth and that was it.  Peavey improved to 2-1 on the season with a 6-0 victory.  Home runs by Brian Burgamy and Cory Vaughn would account for five of the six runs the Mets would score.  Dustin Lawley would drive in the other one.  Binghamton returns to NYSEG Stadium for a seven-game homestand starting with four against the Harrisburg Senators.  Darin Gorski is scheduled to go for the Mets looking for his third win of the season. (box score)

PALM BEACH 6, ST. LUCIE 1

Winners of five out of their last six, the Palm Beach Cardinals came to Tradition Field hoping to continue their winning ways.  Michael Fulmer was on the mound for St. Lucie and would not get the job done, as the Cardinals defeated the Mets 6-1.  Fulmer who had bounced back from a terrible outing three starts ago would struggle in this one going five innings allowing six runs with only three earned, picking up his second loss of the season.  Maikis De Le Cruz would drive in the lone run for the Mets, on an RBI single in the third inning.  The Mets 1-0 would only last until the top of the fourth when the Cardinals tagged them for four runs.  St. Lucie did have eight hits in the contest but none of them went for extra bases. (box score)

SAVANNAH 9, WEST VIRGINIA 3

The Savannah SandGnats would register the team cycle as they win for the 21st time this season beating the West Virginia Power 9-3.  Gavin Cecchini would go 2-for-5 including a home run and a triple and would drive in three runs.  Ricky Knapp started for the SandGnats and threw an effective 6.2 innings giving up all three runs while striking out four.  It would be enough as Savannah’s bats answered the call.  Tyler Vanderheiden would see some work in this one and would give up just one hit over 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.  Thursday is the second game of the three-game series against the Power.  Dario Alverez is scheduled to make his second start of the season.  Alverez has yet to let up an earned run all season in 17.1 innings of work most in relief.  (box score)

METS MINORS PLAYER of the NIGHT

A fantastic game was played in Las Vegas and there was plenty of offense to go around in the Mets minor leagues on Wednesday.  But even with all of that there is no way Greg Peavey with the complete game 2-hit shutout would not be named the MMN Player of the Night.
