EL PASO 10, LAS VEGAS 9

The 51s jumped out to a 7-0 and seemed like they were on their way to an easy victory. El Paso had other plans in mind, putting up seven runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th on their way to victory. Logan Verrett started for Las Vegas, and was cruising right along until the 6th inning doomed him. Verrett finished the day having pitched five innings while allowing six runs on eight hits. We struck out four and walked none. The 51s offense did their job, with Andrew Brown leading the way. The right fielder went 4 for 5 with a homerun, a double and two RBI. Zach Lutz also smashed a homerun on his way to a 3 for 5 day at the plate. He scored three times and drove in two runners of his own. Allan Dykstra and Omar Quintanilla also hit homeruns. The 51s will travel to Fresno on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 10:05 PM ET. (box score)

BINGHAMTON 9, NEW HAMPSHIRE 8

Tyler Pill took the ball for the B-Mets on Sunday and pitched well. The 23-year old right-hander went 5.2 innings and allowed two runs, striking out six and walking just one in the game. However his efforts were spoiled when the bullpen imploded. T.J. Chism was the biggest culprit, allowing five runs while recording just a single out. The Mets offense did enough to overcome their relievers shortcomings, however, and got the win. The middle of the B-Mets order did the majority of the damage, with the three through five hitters combining to go 11 for 21. Catcher Kevin Plawecki stayed hot, going 3 for 7 with two RBI and a run scored. Jayce Boyd, who has struggled most of the season, showed signs of busting out with a 4 for 7 effort. Matt Reynolds had four hits of his own to go along with two RBI and two runs scored. Binghamton travels to Portland to take on the Sea Dogs in a doubleheader on Monday. Matthew Bowman will pitch game 2, and the game one starter has yet to be determined. (box score)

LAKELAND 3, St LUCIE 2

Gabriel Ynoa got the nod for St. Lucie on Sunday and had his best start of the season thus far. Ynoa gave up two earned runs over seven solid innings of work. He scattered seven hits while walking just one. He also had five strikeouts.  Paul Sewald, who came on in relief on Ynoa to start the eighth, got the loss.  Dilson Herrera and Brandon Nimmo each had a pair of hits for St Lucie, including a solo HR by Herrera to leadoff the fourth inning.  The offense didn’t do much else all day, managing just four more hits against Lakeland pitching. St Lucie will finish their four game set with Lakeland Monday night.  (box score)

CHARLESTON 10, SAVANNAH 3

Chris Flexen took the mound for the Sand Gnats on Sunday and didn’t fare well. The 19-year old Flexen went 5.1 innings and allowed five runs, four of which were earned runs. He struck out four and walked three on his way to his fifth loss of the season. Leadoff hitter Patrick Biondi went 2 for 3 with a walk. Jeff McNeil also pitched in with two hits and a run scored. Dominic Smith went just 1 for 4, but drove in a pair. Robert Coles, who has been brilliant for Savannah in 2014, allowed three runs in his inning of work– raising his ERA to just 1.37. Savannah and Charleston will go at it again on Monday with first pitched slated for 7:05 PM ET. Kevin McGowan will get the nod for the Sand Gnats. (box score)

PLAYER OF THE NIGHT

Sunday’s player of the night is Gabriel Ynoa for his 7-inning effort against the Blue Claws. The right-hander allowed two runs and struck out five in the game.
