RENO 6, LAS VEGAS 5

It was a nail-biter in Vegas, where, despite having a man on first and third with no outs down two in the ninth, the 51’s were unable to fire back and tie the game. With Andrew Brown on third and Omar Quintanilla on first, Daniel Muno struck out on a foul bunt. Kai Gronauer managed to bring in Brown on a sacrifice fly, but Zach Lutz couldn’t top things off, ending the game on a fly out to center field. Rafael Montero made his first start after being sent back down by the Mets, and undeniably struggled. He pitched 5.1 innings and gave up three runs, although the damage could have been much worse. Montero was bailed out in the sixth with the bases loaded when Joel Carreno came in and induced an inning-ending double play. And while Montero did manage to strike out five, he still gave up four walks, a problem that he has struggled with much lately.

BINGHAMTON 15, ALTOONA 6

After being down 3-0 going into the fifth, the B-Mets went on an absolute tear, lighting up the scoreboard and driving in 15 runs in the final five innings of the game. The entire squad managed to string hits together in the impressive offensive showing. Matt Clark had four hits with two runs scored, Kevin Plawecki was 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI’s and three runs scored and Cory Vaughn was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI’s. Overall, the B-Mets really showed just how dominant their bats can be, especially considering their scoring occurred over five innings and five different pitchers. Tyler Pill got the win, throwing six innings, giving up only three runs and striking out six. However, Hamilton Bennett ran into a little bit of trouble giving up three runs, a walk and a home run in his one inning of play.

DAYTONA 6, ST. LUCIE 5

Despite a valiant effort, the St. Lucie Mets were bested by the Daytona Cubs in the late innings of Tuesday’s game. Domingo Tapia really struggled, giving up five hits, five walks and five runs in only 2.1 innings, moving his record to 2-5 and his ERA to 4.50. Despite the early trouble, the Mets didn’t quit. They continued to battle, scoring individual runs in the first, third, fourth, sixth and eight, but it just wouldn’t be enough. Brandon Nimmo was 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Jairo Perez added two hits and two RBI’s. Eudy Pina added a sixth inning solo blast, his second of the season, but by then the deficit was just too great.

SAVANNAH 3, ASHEVILLE 2

Savannah won a tight one after coming out to a 2-0 lead early in the first. After Gavin Cecchini walked, Jeff McNeil got things going with a one-out double, which led to a later throwing error Asheville third baseman Ryan McMahon to bring in the two runners. The Gnats scored one more in the eighth off of a Jorge Rivera single, his only hit on the day, that brought in L.J. Mazzilli.  Kevin McGowan had a great day throwing 8.1 innings giving up six hits and only two runs while striking out three. McGowan was nearing a complete game, when, with a man on second with one out in the ninth, manager Luis Rojas decided to call in Akeel Morris to close things out. Asheville managed to bring in the run to cut the lead to one, but Morris managed to shut the Tourists down for his second save of the season.

METS MINORS PLAYER of the NIGHT

It’s tough to pick an individual player when the entire Binghamton Mets squad went absolutely berzerk offensively, but if one person in particular stood out it was Kevin Plawecki. With four hits, a home run and four RBI’s, it would have been impossible to give the honor to anyone else. Plawecki is now hitting .335, the fifth best in the league
