SACRAMENTO 10, LAS VEGAS 1

The Las Vegas 51’s suffered their worst loss of the season on Sunday, losing to the Sacramento River Cats 10-1.  The 51’s have now lost five in a row and seven of their last eight.  Giancarlo Alvarado made his third start of the season and was hit hard during his five innings of work.  Alvarado allowed six runs on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout.  It was a relentless offensive assault by Sacramento who was never set down in order at any point during the game.  Allan Dykstra provided the only runs for Las Vegas hitting his eighth home run of the season in the sixth inning.  Dysktra ended the night going 3-for-4 with a double also.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis was the only other 51’s player that had a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a triple.  Las Vegas will try and salvage the series against Sacramento on Monday in the final game of the four game series.  Greg Peavey will make his second start for the 51’s after being called up from Binghamton.  (box score)

BINGHAMTON 3, NEW BRITAIN 1

The Binghamton Mets won their third straight against New Britain on Sunday 3-1.  The Mets would tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first thanks to a lead-off double by Kyle Johnson and an RBI single by Kevin Plawecki.  Binghamton would add two more runs in the third on a Travis d’Arnaud 2-run home run, and coast the rest of the way to earn the win.  Despite giving up seven hits in five innings, Angel Cuan had a strong outing giving up the only New Britain run while striking out four.  The Binghamton bullpen would come in and only allow one more hit securing Cuan’s first win of the season.  The Mets had more chances to drive in more runs but couldn’t capitalize with runners in scoring position, and would also strand eight.  Binghamton looks for the series sweep against New Britain on Monday when the send Darin Gorski to the mound.  (box score)

PALM BEACH 4, ST. LUCIE 1

St. Lucie’s six-game win streak would come to an abrupt end on Sunday, as the Palm Beach Cardinals defeat the Mets 4-1.  St. Lucie struggled to get on the board up until the 8th inning.  While trailing 3-0 the hot-hitting Brandon Nimmo would belt his fourth home run of the season, which unfortunately didn’t spark up the rest of the offense.  The Cardinals would get that run back in the bottom of the eighth.  Steven Matz started for St. Lucie and did what he could do to keep his team in it, but it was the lack of offense in the end that would bring his winless streak to five starts.  Matz went six innings giving up two unearned runs on four hits.  St. Lucie will now travel to Brevard County on Tuesday to take on the Manatees.  Michael Fulmer is the sceduled starter.  (box score)

SAVANNAH 11, LEXINGTON 6

In an old fashioned slugfest, the Savannah SandGnats would outlast the Lexington Legends 11-6.  Both teams would combine for 17 runs on 27 hits, six of which were home runs.  Chris Flexen started for Savannah and earned his second win of the season going six effective innings giving up just two runs.  Dario Alvarez came in to finish the game out and struggled in his first action since May 2oth, giving up four runs which was more than his season total leading up to the game.  Every Savannah starter would record a hit including Jorge Rivero’s four, Stefan Sabol’s three, and two other SandGnats that would end the night with two.  After winning five of their last six, Savannah continues their roadtrip heading to Augusta to take on the GreenJackets for three starting Monday.  Kevin McGowan gets the nod for the SandGnats looking to pick up his third win of the season.  (box score)

METS MINORS PLAYER of the NIGHT

With his 3-for-4 night with a home run, a double, two RBI, and three runs scored, and a walk, Stefan Sabol has been awarded the Mets Minors Player of the Night award.
