Mazzilli went 2-for2 with a home run, single, and two walks.

EL PASO 7, LAS VEGAS 4

The Las Vegas 51’s would trail 5-1 going into the seventh inning and try to mount a comeback, only to watch it fall short as they drop the game on Thursday 7-4.  With a roster that has seen a tremendous amount of turnover during the last couple of weeks, the 51’s have dropped nine of their last twelve.  Joel Carreno started for Las Vegas and pitched decent in his five innings of work.  Recent call-up John Church struggled giving up three runs in one inning.  Las Vegas would get some offense hitting three home runs in this one but just couldn’t get over the hump.  One of the home runs came from Andrew Brown which was his 11th of the season.  It is going to be a difficult road for the 51’s with so many roster moves that have been made already or will be made shortly.  They are still one of the best teams in the PCL and will be back on track once they hit their stride.  The series finale is scheduled for Friday with Giancarlo Alvarado getting the start.  (box score)

BINGHAMTON 7, NEW HAMPSHIRE 2

Brian Burgamy hit his seventh home run, and Hansel Robles picked up his third win of the season on Thursday, as the Binghamton Mets defeated New Hampshire 7-2.  The Mets wrapped up their three-games series against the Fisher Cats, taking two out of three and now have won six out of their last seven.  Robles gave Binghamton 6.2 solid innings allowing one run on six hits while striking out five.  This was the longest start this season for Robles and the fifth time in nine starts where he struck out at least five.  Binghamton helped Robles out by giving him seven runs on eleven hits.  Burgamy went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in his second game back into the lineup.  Kevin Plawecki extended his hit streak to eight, going 1-for-4 in this contest.  Binghamton will now leave their home digs for the next six games with stops in New Britain and Altoona.  Angel Cuan will get the start on Friday for the Mets.  (box score)

BREVARD COUNTY 9, ST. LUCIE 1

After splitting a quick two-game set at Brevard County with the Manatees, the St. Lucie Mets now play host as these two teams meet again for another brief two-game set.  The first game didn’t go according to plan and the Mets get handled quite easily, losing on Thursday 9-1.  Luis Cessa started for St. Lucie and kept them in position to win, giving up two runs in six innings.  The combination of offensive struggles and bullpen struggles let this one get out of hand.  Seth Lugo came in for Cessa and was taken out after giving up seven runs in just an inning and a third.  Lugo was having success over his last five appearances but couldn’t get the job done in this one.  The Mets had a not-so pleasant experience against Brevard County’s Tyler Wagner as he was able to tame their bats giving up the only run and striking out eight.  Jairo Perez wasn’t phased by Wagner as he went 3-4, but it was Phillip Evans who would get St. Lucie on the board with a home run in the fifth inning.  Matt Koch will look for his seventh win of the season as he starts for the Mets on Friday.  (box score)

SAVANNAH 3, ROME 2 – 12 INNINGS

It was L.J. Mazzilli’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning that gave the Savannah SandGnats their 35th win of the season.  The single came with two runners on base in the game’s 219th minute.  Savannah would use five pitchers in this one with Tim Peterson picking up his third win of the season.  Ricky Knapp started the game for the SandGnats and was good giving up just two runs in 6.1 innings.  Savannah’s bullpen shutdown the Braves giving up four hits in 5.2 innings.  Jeff McNeil had a solid night at the plate going 4-for-5 with two doubles and a RBI.  This was Savannah’s first game since Monday due to weather related issues.  The second game of the four game series is set for Friday with Miller Diaz looking for his sixth win of the season.  (box score)

METS MINORS PLAYER of the NIGHT

Once again there are a couple of choices for this award, but in honor of his walk-off single, L.J. Mazzilli is the Mets Minors Player of the Night.  Mazzilli went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
