For the second consecutive night, the Syracuse Mets blew out the Charlotte Knights. The game featured the return of Kodai Senga, as well as Jett Williams and Drew Gilbert sustained hitting absurdity.

  • DH Drew Gilbert: 1-for-3, 2 R, HR (10), 3 RBI, 2 BB (.706 OPS)
  • SS Jett Williams: 2-for-4, 3 R, 2B, BB, K (1.267 OPS)
  • 1B JT Schwartz: 2-for-4, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K (.652 OPS)
  • RF DJ Stewart: 0-for-3, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 3 K (.885 OPS)
  • PH-2B Wyatt Young: 2-for-2, 2B (.643 OPS)

Drew Gilbert and Jett Williams continue to lead the Mets offensively. Williams has torn up the Knights pitching staff this series, as he has gone 8-for-18, four doubles, and a K: BB of 4:7 in his first taste of Triple-A baseball. Gilbert launched his tenth homer of the year, his second in as many days. The 23-year-old has slashed .239/.337/.493 (.830 OPS) and has eight extra-base hits in September.

  • RHP Kodai Senga (4.76 ERA) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K (15 pitches/8 strikes)
  • RHP Trey McLoughlin (4.00 ERA) 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
  • RHP Blade Tidwell (5.93 ERA) 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 10 K
  • RHP Grant Hartwig (4.34 ERA) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

The big story here is Kodai Senga’s late-season return to the mound. Senga missed the entire first half of the season due to a shoulder injury, he returned to make a quality start against the Braves on July 26 but injured his calf.  Senga looked good, striking out two of the four batters faced without allowing a hit or run. Due to the influx of offense and extended time between innings, Senga only pitched one inning (well below his 30-pitch limit).

Like Dom Hamel, Tidwell finished his 2024 season with two strong starts. His appearance on Saturday was his first time going six innings since August 16 and his second time this season with double-digit strikeouts.

Syracuse (77-71) won the game 10-3 against the Charlotte Knights (68-78) BOX SCORE

The Mets finish their season on Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. game against the Knights; Mike Vasil is expected to be on the mound.
