Mets Minors Recap: Sproat Shines, Vargas impresses in strong all around day

The Mets’ minor league affiliates all put up strong performances on Saturday. Brandon Sproat continued to progress, pitching 4 1/3 innings with just one earned run allowed. He walked two and struck out six. The 24-year-old’s development will be crucial for the Mets’ success in 2025, as they could be an injury or two away from needing his services. Marco Vargas continued to impress with the stick for Port St Lucie, going 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base.

Triple-A

Syracuse Mets (4-8) 6 , Lehigh Valley IronPigs (10-3) 2

Box Score

Joey Meneses continued to impress for Syracuse, going 2-for-4, hitting a double and driving in three. Donovan Walton reached base twice, collecting two hits, an RBI, and scoring a run. Génesis Cabrera posted a strong outing, notching himself a win and striking out two.

Double-A

Binghampton Rumble Ponies (1-1) , Hartford Yard Goats (1-1) PPD

The Rumble Ponies’ matchup with the Hartford Yard Goats was postponed due to inclement weather. They are scheduled to play today at 1:05 PM EST. RHP Nolan McLean is set to take the ball.

High A

Game 1 : Hudson Valley Renegades (5-2) 2, Brooklyn Cyclones (4-3) 0

The Cyclones were unable to generate any sort of offense in game 1, falling to the Renegades. 21 Jacob Reimer and Chris Suero collected hits, continuing their respective strong starts to the 2025 season.

21-year-old Joel Díaz was brilliant, continuing his scoreless streak, striking out five in the process. Brendan Girton was shaky, giving up three hits, three walks, and striking out four through three innings pitched.

 

Game 2 : Hudson Valley Renegades (5-3) 1, Brooklyn Cyclones (5-3) 2

Box Score Game 2

The Cyclones only mustered two runs in game 2, but that was all that was needed. Nick Roselli whacked a two-run single to provide the only runs in a 2-1 victory over the Renegades.

Left-hander Zach Thornton continued to impress, tossing five scoreless innings. He’s a strong candidate to rise through the Mets prospect rankings as the year progresses.

Low-A

Lakeland Flying Tigers (3-5) 3, St. Lucie Mets (4-4) 10

Box Score

St Lucie broke out the bats against the Flying Tigers on Saturday, pummeling them by a score of 10-3. Five hitters in the lineup posted multi-hit performances, highlighted by A.J. Ewing going 3-for-5 with a homer.

Matt Allan continued to impress, throwing 3 scoreless innings followed by 4 scoreless innings from Channing Austin.
