Mets Minors Recap: Syndergaard Punches Out Six, Herrera Goes Yard

LAS VEGAS 4, FRESNO 5

It was Noah Syndergaard’s turn in the rotation on Wednesday night as he lasted five innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out six. All three of Syndergaard’s earned runs came on two home runs in the third inning. Omar Quintanilla led off the third inning with a solo home run and eventually went 2 for 4 on the night. Kirk Nieuwenhuis drilled an opposite field two-run home run in the fourth inning. Taylor Teagarden also drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Las Vegas was up 4 to 3 going into the eighth inning but Miguel Socolovich allowed two runs, receiving the blown save and the loss. Dana Eveland gets the ball on Thursday night.

PORTLAND 5, BINGHAMTON 1 – GAME 1

Luis Cessa was promoted to the B-Mets on Wednesday but his first start did not go so well. He lasted just 3.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out three. The Binghamton offense was able to put nine hits on the board but could only put up one run on the board. Kevin Plawecki went 0 for 3 but picked up an RBI. Matt Reynolds, Matt Clark and Dustin Lawley all had two hit games.

PORTLAND 6, BINGHAMTON 5 – GAME 2

The B-Mets scored all of their runs in the first two innings of game two but could not hold on for the win. Matthew Bowman was shelled for six runs in 4.2 innings. He allowed six hits while walking four and striking out three. Matt Reynolds and Matt Clark both picked up another two hits in game two and this time were able to combine for four RBI’s. Kyle Johnson had a 1 for 4 night and also picked up an RBI as well. Rainy Lara is scheduled to start on Thursday night.

ST. LUCIE 5, CLEARWATER 2

Domingo Tapia made Wednesday night’s start and went four innings, allowing just one earned run on one hit but walked four and struck out five, which drove his pitch count up in a hurry. The top of St. Lucie’s batting order was at it again as Dilson Herrera had a monster game. He went 3 for 4 with his third home run of the season, also clubbing an RBI double and adding a stolen base. Nimmo was Nimmo as he drew another two walks and collected a single and an RBI. TJ Rivera went 0 for 2 with a walk and also collected an RBI. Thursday night’s starter is to be determined.

SAVANNAH – DAY OFF

The Savannah Sand Gnats had an off day on Wednesday. Miller Diaz gets the ball in the series opener against Lexington on Thursday night.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Dilson Herrera did it all on Wednesday, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He went 3 for 4 with an RBI double and his third home run of the season. He also added a stolen base. Herrera’s line on the season now sits at .328/.366/.433.
