Saturday night saw the Syracuse Mets dismantle the Worcester Woo Sox for the second consecutive night, and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies’ ninth-inning comeback fell just short.

Triple-A

Worcester Red Sox (74-68) 3, Syracuse Mets (74-67) 19

BOX SCORE

After shutting out Worcester Friday night, the Syracuse Mets put a hurting on the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate on Saturday, winning 19-3. Yolmer Sánchez’s September surge continued–picking up two more extra-base hits–while eight of the nine Syracuse batters had multi-hit games.

Jose Azocar has seven hits in 24 at-bats with Syracuse. The Mets claimed Azocar off waivers from the San Diego Padres on September 5th.

  • RHP Jonathan Pintaro (0.00 ERA): 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K (48 of 90 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Tyler Zuber (6.81): 1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Eric Orze (4.50): 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
  • RHP Max Kranick (3.60): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

What a Triple-A debut for Pintaro, who has risen through three Minor League Levels (A+, AA, and now AAA) since being brought into the organization in mid-June. While he did walk four batters, he struck out Worcester batters at an efficient pace while stranding the baserunners to produce a scoreless AAA debut.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (68-67) 2, Portland Sea Dogs (78-59) 4

BOX SCORE

Binghamton dropped their second straight game against Portland, losing 4-2. The Ponies made a valiant effort at the top of the ninth inning, scoring two runs and having the tying runner on base. Kevin Parada launched his 12th homer of the year in that frame.

Hawkins joined the large group of recently promoted players–Saturday was his Double-A debut. He gave a solid performance for the Ponies, going an inning short of a quality start. In Brooklyn, Hawkins was used as a spot-starter/longman in the bullpen—it will be interesting to see how he is used in the future.
