Mets center field prospect Alex Ramirez keeps racking up the hits for St. Lucie with three on Friday night including his third triple of the season. Ramirez now leads the Florida State League with 35 hits and three triples.

AAA: Lehigh Valley IronPigs 6 (16-12) vs. Syracuse Mets 2 (9-18) Box Score

Syracuse scored two runs on six hits as they dropped their second-straight game to Lehigh Valley. Both Mets’ runs came on back-to-back solo home runs from Daniel Palka and Nick Meyer in the seventh inning. Palka has homered in consecutive games and now has eight on the season, improving his OPS to 1.038.

Nick Plummer has also been solid of late, recording hits in five-straight games while going 7-for-21 with two doubles and a home run since the start of May.

  • RHP Felix Pena: (L, 0-4, 6.59 ERA) 4.2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 K
  • LHP Rob Zastryzny: (0-1, 4.60 ERA) 1.0 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, BB, 2 K
  • RHP Yoan Lopez: (0-1, 6.00 ERA) 2.1 IP, R, 2 H, 2 K

Pena managed to hold the IronPigs to two runs despite allowing seven baserunners in 4.2 innings but still picked up his fourth loss in as many starts. The game got away from the Mets when Zastryzny allowed three runs in the sixth inning. Yoan Lopez and Justin Dillon combined to allow just one run (unearned) over the final 3.1 innings

AA: Hartford Yard Goats 4 (14-11) vs. Binghamton Rumble Ponies 0 (7-17) Box Score

Binghamton couldn’t get any offense going Friday as they dropped a third straight to Hartford. Karl Kauffmann, a second-round pick of the Rockies in 2019, held the Rumble Ponies to just five hits in eight innings while striking out nine.  Zach Ashford, a sixth-round pick in 2019 out of Fresno State, had the Rumble Ponies’ lone extra-base hit on the night with a third-inning double. Brett Baty picked up a hit though struck out in his other three at-bats as he looks to break his recent cold spell.

  • RHP Alec Kisena(L, 1-2, 3.52 ERA) 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Mitch Ragan(0-1, 8.16 ERA) 2.0 IP, ER, 3 H, BB, K

Kisena posted a second-straight quality start despite taking the loss, allowing his only runs on a three-run Willie MacIver home run in the third inning. Kisena now has a 1.o9 WHIP and a solid 9.53 K/9 through 17 innings this season. Mitch Ragan pitched the final two innings for Binghamton, allowing a run on three hits and a walk.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (12-12) vs. Aberdeen IronBirds (17-6): Rained Out (Re-scheduled for May 7)

A: St. Lucie Mets 8 (18-7) vs. Palm Beach Cardinals 3 (9-16) Box Score

St. Lucie continues to roll, scoring eight runs on 11 hits as they extended their winning streak to seven. Alex Ramirez is cementing himself as one of the top prospects in low-A — he’s 10-for-20 to start the series with two doubles and a triple. Shervyen Newton keeps turning heads as well, belting his fourth home run of the year to raise his OPS to .958.

Meanwhile, Omar De Los Santos picked up his 12th stolen base of the year, putting him second in the Florida State League. De Los Santos, a 2019 signee from the Dominican Republic, slashed .241/.292/.331 for St. Lucie in 2021 with 12 steals in 38 games.

Ziegler struggled with his command Friday, walking four Cardinals but managed to limit the damage to only two runs. Carson Seymour, a sixth-round pick out of Kansas State, earned the win as he continued an excellent start to the season. He’s now allowed just one run in 20 innings with a WHIP of 0.85. Seymour is relatively inexperienced for a college arm, but he’s making a case for himself as a prospect thanks to a fastball that can touch high-90s mph with a hard cutter and a developing changeup.
