After the barrage of trades, the New York Mets Major League roster needed reinforcements. The Mets would add four players from the Triple-A Syracuse roster.

Right-handed reliever John Curtiss was recalled. He last made an appearance for the Mets on June 18.

Curtiss has made 13 appearances for the Mets without recording a decision. He has posted a 4.08 ERA, 1.132 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9, and a 5.6 K/9.

With Syracuse, Curtiss has made 18 appearances going 1-2 with a 7.17 ERA, 1.688 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9, and an 8.9 K/9.

Joining Curtiss in the bullpen will be left-handed reliever Josh Walker. He last appeared in a Major League game on July 22.

He appeared in the game against the Kansas City Royals in the tenth inning. He did not have a PitchCom and would wind up balking home the winning run before he threw a pitch.

He’s made nine appearances in the majors going 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA, 1.950 WHIP, 8.1 BB/9, and an 8.1 K/9. In 21 appearances for Syracuse, he’s 2-2 with one save, a 1.84 ERA, 1.091 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9, and a 12.3 K/9.

The contract of OF Rafael Ortega was selected by the Mets. After Ortega was released by the Texas Rangers organization on June 7, the Mets signed him to a minor league deal on June 18. He played 30 games for Syracuse hitting .230/.379/.398 with seven doubles, four homers, and 15 RBI. He was successful in 6/9 stolen base attempts.

With Brandon Nimmo suffering a strained quad, Ortega would be in the Mets starting lineup against the Royals. He was 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

Catcher Michael Pérez was recalled from Syracuse. This is his second stint with the Mets this season. Pérez being recalled means the Mets are currently carrying three catchers on the roster. Of note, Tomás Nido will remain in Syracuse to be their primary catcher.

Pérez appeared in two games earlier in the season. He was 4-for-7 with a double and a strikeout. In 48 games with Syracuse, he is hitting .210/.326/.318 with four doubles, four homers, and 17 RBI.

Previously, the Mets had sent right-handed reliever Sam Coonrod on a minor league rehab assignment. Coonrod had suffered a high grain lat strain and was transferred to the 60 day IL in April. He had been selected off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies in the offseason, but he has yet to make an appearance for the Mets.

Undrafted left-handed reliever Gage Bihm was signed to a minor league deal. Bihm, 21, pitched for NAIA LSU-Shreveport last season. He made three starts and 22 relief appearances going 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA, 0.925 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9, and a 13.3 K/9.

Left-handed minor league reliever Quinn Brodey was released. Brodey, 27, was the Mets 2017 third round pick out of Stanford University. As an outfielder, he would have two separate stints with Triple-A Syracuse hitting just .196/.265/.402 between his two stops.

After his professional career as an outfielder stalled, the Mets attempted to convert him to a left-handed relief pitcher. He had pitched as a freshman at Stanford and had a 3.48 ERA. He would make 23 relief appearances between High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA, 2.114 WHIP, 7.1 BB/9, and an 11.0 K/9.
