Francys Romero of MLB.com reports the New York Mets have signed 19 year old Cuban third baseman Yordis Perera. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Notably, Perera was only declared a free agent by the commissioner’s office on March 1. Previous to that, he had not been eligible to sign a contract.

As noted by Romero, Perera was the home run leader in Cuba’s U-15 national tournament. Perera is said to have “above average power” and can drive the ball to all fields.

Perera will be assigned to the DSL Mets along with C Cristopher Suero. Previously, the DSL Mets announced they were adding RHP Eris Albino, RHP Rodolfo Garrido, LHP Cesar Rivera, RHP Wilson Esterlin, RHP Omar Victorino, SS Jesiel Vargas, and C Daniel Silva to the roster.

Mets right-handed pitcher Robert Dominguez announced on his Instagram that he had surgery on his pitching arm. The exact nature of the surgery and the timetable for his recovery is not yet known. Dominguez is currently MMN‘s 23rd ranked prospect.

In other news, it appears the reports on MLB’s International Draft were premature. Mets ace Max Scherzer took to Twitter to say the international draft to suggest while it was a point of discussion, MLB said they were not going to offer anything to the players in exchange for the draft, and as a result, the players were not going to approve it.

As suggested by players like David Ortiz and Fernando Tatis Jr., the international draft is something the players would ever seek to approve in the negotiations. That is something Scherzer seemed to affirm.

MLB canceled games through April 14, but it is important to remember the cancellation of games is still something which needs to be collectively bargained. Previously, MLB had opted to cancel the first two series, but apparently, they were willing to make up games in the event there was a deal reached yesterday.

As oft stated, the lockout will only impact prospects in the minors like Jose Butto, Khalil Lee, Adam Oller, Nick Plummer, and Mark Vientos. However, it will not delay the minor league season from starting on time.
