The first couple of days in the minor league season are in the books and there has already been a ton of excitement including the Columbia Fireflies throwing a combined no-hitter on Saturday for the first win in team history.

Las Vegas has had their early season schedule screwed up by rainy weather, having two games postponed and their doubleheader yesterday washed away. They are 1-1 on the early season with Rafael Montero shining in his first start of 2016 while Seth Lugo struggled in his. Matt Reynolds is off to a fast start going 3 for 5 with three walks and a homer.

Dominic Smith is off to a slow start, going 1 for 8 and picking up his first Double-A yesterday in the Binghamton Mets 8-1 loss. It was just the second game of the season for the B-Mets who have also had two games postponed because of inclement weather. They won their first game behind the power of Jeff McNeil and the starting pitching of Robert Gsellman.

Mets top position prospect Amed Rosario started his 2016 season off with a bang, hitting a walk-off homerun in the St. Lucie Mets first game of the year. He is 6 for 20 with two stole bases to start the season and teammate John Mora is 6 for 17 with two doubles and four RBI. St. Lucie has started the year out going 3-1 after a 4-3 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads last night.

I’m not sure anyone in the Columbia Fireflies organization could have imagined a crazier start to the franchise. They had gone 1-3 with three walk-off losses  and their only win coming in the no-no mentioned above. The Fireflies offense is being lead by two players taken in the 2015 draft, 4th rounder David Thompson is 5 for 14 with three walks, six RBI and hit the first homer in team history. While 14th rounder Vinny Siena has gone 6 for 13 with four walks and two doubles.

We had the first edition in our new series done by writer John Sasso who is taking a look at the top prospects for each of the Mets opponents in the National League East. Here you can read about the lowly Marlins farm system.

Our first ever MMN Roundtable was posted this week, in it we discussed such things as will Brandon Nimmo have a breakout or bust year and how many homeruns will Dom Smith hit in 2016.

You can still take a look at the season previews we did for the Mets four affiliates that are now in action; St. Lucie Mets, Binghamton Mets, Columbia Fireflies, and finally the Las Vegas 51s.

Teddy took a look at the Mets young catcher Juan Uriarte who was recently mentioned in a Baseball American piece covering the top DSL prospects.

Writer Steve Perez posted who he thought the Mets should target with their first two picks in the upcoming June draft.
