With Binghamton clinching a postseason spot and Brooklyn just narrowly missing out on one, it was a week filled with plenty of intriguing storylines from a standings perspective. Here are the biggest developments throughout the organization, including a history-making performance from Joander Suarez and standout hitting from Jeremiah Jackson.

Triple-A Syracuse

The Syracuse Mets won three of five games at home against the Rochester Red Wings. Syracuse has a 55-79 record on the year.

Danny Mendick went 11-for-18 with three doubles, seven RBI, and a stolen base. He had four multi-hit games, including a four-hit effort on Friday, and he drove in five runs during Tuesday’s game.

Daniel Palka hit two homers in Wednesday’s game, the only two hits he had in the entire series. He has five home runs in 11 games for Syracuse this season.

Mike Vasil allowed six runs across five innings of work during his start on Friday. He has a 5.71 ERA in 14 Triple-A starts.

Double-A Binghamton

The Rumble Ponies won three of five games away at the Hartford Yard Goats. Binghamton has clinched their spot in the postseason as the second-half winner of the Northeast division of the Eastern League.

Drew Gilbert went 4-for-15 with two home runs, three RBI, and five runs scored. He had a multi-homer game on Thursday, and he has a .945 OPS with six home runs in 30 games with Binghamton.

Luisangel Acuña went 6-for-21 with two home runs, one double, one stolen base, four RBI, and six runs scored. Acuña hit his first two homers for Binghamton in Wednesday’s game, and he is hitting .260 with a .668 OPS in 33 games since being acquired.

Kevin Parada went 5-for-18 with two home runs, one double, and five RBI. He has 14 homers on the year, including three in 10 games since being promoted to Double-A.

Jeremiah Jackson went 7-for-21 with two home runs, two doubles, five RBI, and four runs scored. Jackson has an .833 OPS with seven home runs in 32 games with Binghamton.

Joander Suarez threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader, striking out four batters and issuing just one walk. Suarez has begun his Double-A career with 13 consecutive no-hit innings, and he has not allowed a hit in his last 17 innings on the mound.

Dominic Hamel pitched three hitless innings in his start on Friday, striking out five batters and issuing one walk. He has a 4.01 ERA across 119 innings this season.

Christian Scott tossed two scoreless innings and struck out three in his start on Wednesday. It was his first game action since firing 6 1/3 scoreless innings in a start on August 12th.

Blade Tidwell allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings of work in his start on Tuesday. He has a 4.97 ERA in six Double-A starts.

High-A Brooklyn

The Cyclones won four of six games at home against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Brooklyn finished with a 38-28 record in the second half but missed out on a postseason spot due to a tiebreaker, ending their season.

Jett Williams went 7-for-23 with one home run, two triples, one double, four runs, and five walks. Williams hit .299 with a 1.018 OPS in 36 games with Brooklyn, and he was called up to Double-A following the conclusion of Brooklyn’s season.

Ryan Clifford went 3-for-17 with one home run, one double, and four RBI. Clifford finished the year with 24 homers and an .854 OPS, but he hit just .188 with a .683 OPS in 32 games with Brooklyn.

Stanley Consuegra hit three homers in the series to give him 23 on the year. He hit 13 homers in the 2022 season and had just 19 homers in three seasons prior to the start of this year.

Jordany Ventura allowed three runs (2 ER) and struck out seven batters in 8 2/3 innings across two starts. He posted a 3.86 ERA in 10 starts with Brooklyn.

Layonel Ovalles allowed three runs in five innings of work in his start on Friday. He had a 3.38 ERA in his two starts after a late-season call-up to High-A.

Low-A St. Lucie

The St. Lucie Mets won three of five games at home against the Daytona Tortugas. St. Lucie finishes their season with a 44-84 record.

Marco Vargas went 2-for-3 with three walks, two RBI, one stolen base, and one run scored in the one game he played in the series. Ronald Hernandez went 1-for-11 with three RBI and two runs scored across the three games he played.

Nolan McLean pitched two scoreless innings in relief in Saturday’s game. He was also in the lineup for two games in the series, going 1-for-7 with two runs scored and two walks.

Players of the Week

Offense – Jeremiah Jackson, UTIL Binghamton

Jackson has been extremely solid since being acquired from the Angels in the Dominic Leone trade, and all of his skills were on full display this week. He had four extra-base hits including two home runs, he drove in five runs, and he scored four more. Jackson has 22 homers on the year, with seven of those coming in the 32 games he has played for Binghamton.

Jackson has bounced around the diamond as a defender, making at least six starts at second base, shortstop, and third base with Binghamton. He probably projects as a utility infielder with plus power and solid speed (25 stolen bases this season), a player archetype that teams can never have too many of. The 23-year-old Jackson will most likely start the 2024 season in Triple-A with a shot at making the major league roster at some point next year.

Honorable mentions go to Jett Williams for yet another outstanding week as well as earning a promotion to Double-A, to Danny Mendick for having an 11-hit series, and to Luisangel Acuña for blasting his first two homers as a member of the Mets organization.

Pitching – Joander Suarez, P Binghamton

Suarez has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for two consecutive weeks, and for good reason. He followed up six hitless innings in his Double-A debut with a seven-inning no-hitter this past week, pushing his consecutive hitless innings streak to 17. Suarez has had a storybook beginning to his Double-A career, and he will have at least one more start this season to see just how far he can push that hitless streak.

The 23-year-old Suarez is having a breakout year in his fifth professional season, and he has placed himself squarely in the conversation of most intriguing Mets farmhand pitchers. It remains to be seen just how much of his current success is sustainable, but it has been supremely fun to watch in real time.

Honorable mentions go to Christian Scott for pitching two scoreless innings in his return from the injured list and to Dominic Hamel for firing off three strong scoreless innings in a rain-shortened start.
