Syracuse Mets – Arismendy Alcantara

Week Stats: .368/.500/.737, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 SB
Season Stats: .280/.371/.455, 8 2B, 5 HR, 19 RBI, 7 SB, CS

Since Alcantara was called-up to Syracuse, he has been hitting very well. In his 12 games, he is hitting .333/.450/.636. That includes another big week for him as he has played all over the diamond, mostly left field, for Syracuse.

Over the past week, he had two multi-hit games including his three hit game against Buffalo on Tuesday. In that game, Alcantara was 3-for-3 with five runs, a homer, two RBI, and two walks. In Syracuse’s 16-2 victory, Alcantara got things off with a second inning homer. He’d later give Syracuse a lead with a bases loaded walk in the fifth inning. Both he and Syracuse would not look back after that.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies – Harol Gonzalez

Week Stats: 2 GS, 12.0 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 9 K
Season Stats: 3-1, 2.94 ERA, 1.020 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9, 7.9 K/9

Gonzalez struggled in one start allowing five earned in five innings against the Portland Sea Dogs. Since that time, he has been a much better pitcher with a 2.35 ERA over his last five starts limiting opponents to a .202/.263/.376 batting line.

Two of those five starts came over the last week with him putting together his best effort since his beginning a no-hitter. In Tuesday’s game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Gonzalez did not allow an earned run over seven innings. He would allow just five base hits and two walks while striking out five.

This performance is all the more noteworthy because the Flying Squirrels lineup features some of the best prospects in the Giants farm system. In fact, the top three hitters in that lineup, Jacob Heyward (30), Chris Shaw (11), and Jalen Miller (28), were the top 30 prospects in the Giants farm system according to MLB Pipeline. That’s certainly an impressive lineup to keep to one unearned run.

St. Lucie Mets – Quinn Brodey

Week Stats: .391/.462/.739, 2 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, SB, CS
Season Stats: .285/.335/.435, 13 2B, 3B, 5 HR, 38 RBI, 8 SB, 2 CS

Brodey’s resurgent and uneven season continued with another big week from him. Over this current stretch, Brodey has a hit in 10 of his past 11 games, and he has reached safely in 11 straight. Over this time frame, Brodey is hitting .465/.531/.721.

He has seven multi-hit games over this stretch including his going 3-for-4 against the Jupiter Hammerheads on Thursday. In that game, Brodey would double and knock in all of St. Lucie’s runs in the game. This was impressive when you consider the game was started by Edward Cabrera, who is rated as the Marlins’ eighth best prospect by MLB Pipeline.

As we saw in that game, Cabreras was good enough to shut down everyone in the St. Lucie lineup but Brodey. Certainly, Brodey hitting good pitching is a positive sign for him going forward.

Columbia Fireflies – Hansel Moreno

Week Stats: .364/.462/.636, HR, 2 RBI, 2 CS
Season Stats: .193/.265/.290, 2 2B, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 6 SB, 4 CS

Since being sent to Columbia, Moreno has rediscovered his stroke. In 16 games with the Fireflies this year, he is hitting .304/.391/.536. He’s obviously had a few games during this stretch with his best coming on Friday against the August Greenjackets.

In that game, Moreno was 3-for-5 with a run, homer, and two RBI. His homer came in the first inning, and it was the first of six runs scored by the Fireflies on the day. The other run knocked in was on a bunt single in the ensuing inning. The ability to hit for power and drop down a bunt certainly shows the promise Moreno has. So far, his numbers in Columbia prove that out.
