Syracuse Mets – Dilson Herrera

Season Stats: .256/.379/.579, 15 2B, 16 HR, 36 RBI, 8 SB, 3 CS
Week Stats: .381/.480/.762, 2 2B, 2 HR, 3 RBI, CS

Herrera has been absolutely on fire at the plate lately. Up until his hitless game on Sunday, he had an 11 game hitting streak where he hit .421/.488/1.105 with five doubles, seven homers, and 10 RBI. Over that stretch, he would have four multi-hit games with two three hit games.

More impressive than that was his homering in four straight games. Part of that streak was the June 19 game against the Chalotte Knights. In the game, Herrera was 3-for-4 with a run, double, homer, and two RBI. With this hot streak, Herrera is rising up the International League leaderboards. He’s now ranked 10th in homers and OPS and sixth in slugging.

One thing to keep an eye on with Herrera is his increasing versatility. During the Month of June, he’s played every defensive position except catcher, shortstop, and centerfield. Should Herrera continue hitting like this while getting proficient at other defensive positions, he may become enticing as a bench player.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies – David Peterson

Season Stats: 3-2, 4.34 ERA, 1.432 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9, 10.0 K/9
Week Stats: W, 2 GS, 13.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 14 K

After struggling much of the year, Peterson has turned things around in his last three starts, and he has starting to pitch more like a first round draft pick starting a trajectory towards the Major Leagues. Specifically, his last two starts were both quality starts.

His best start came against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The Fisher Cats lineup featured four of the top 30 Blue Jays prospects as rated by MLB Pipeline: Santiago Espinal (28), Riley Adams (27), Kevin Smith (5), and Logan Warmoth (30). Against that lineup, Petereson allowed two earned on nine hits while walking none and striking out six.

What may be the most impressive feat during the week was Peterson striking out 14 while walking just two. This was the result of him pounding the strike zone throwing an impressive 71 percent of his pitches for strikes. This is a sign Peterson is trusting his stuff, and he’s working like a sinkerball pitcher who is not afraid of contact. When he pitches like this, he is an impressive prospect who you can one day see pitching in Queens.

St. Lucie – Jeremy Vasquez

Season Stats: .279/.370/.390, 12 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 30 RBI, 2 SB, 2 CS
Week Stats: .375/.444/.542, 4 2B, 6 RBI

St. Lucie first baseman Vasquez currently has a seven game hitting streak, and he has a hit in 1o of his past 11 games. During the past week, he had three consecutive two hit games, and he has four multi-hit games during his current hitting streak. What’s impressive is Vasquez’s four doubles this week is one-third of his season total. This has been part of a resurgent June for Vasquez as he is hitting .308/.345/.462 over the month.

Columbia Fireflies – Hayden Senger

Season Stats: .211/.313/.352, 9 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 14 RBI
Week Stats: .500/.538/1.250, 3 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI

Senger beat up on the Asheville Tourists this past week gong 6-for-12 at the plate with five extra base hits. In that week, he doubled his career home run total. His best game during this stretch was yesterday when he was 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI. His second inning homer tied the score, and his RBI double in the seventh proved to be the winning run in Columbia’s 11-9 victory. Suddenly, with this stretch, Senger looks much more like a slugging catcher he appeared to be when the Mets drafted him in the 24th round last year.

Brooklyn Cyclones – Malky Mena

Season/Week Stats: W (1-0), 5.2 IP, R, ER, 0 BB, 5 K

After not pitching more than three innings in any appearance last year, Mena was a part of the the Cyclones rotation. In his first start of the season, you can see he earned that spot in the rotation allowing just one earned to the Lowell Spinners. To put into perspective how impressive this feat was, the Spinners currently lead the New York-Penn League in team batting average, SLG, and OPS amassing the most hits in the league. Limiting the hits and runs against this offense has proven to be quite a feat so far this season.

Kingsport Mets – Gregory Guerrero

Season/Week Stats: .381/.500/.810, 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI

When he was signed as an International Free Agent, Guerrero was immediately considered to be one of the best prospects in the Mets farm system. That ranking took a hit when he struggled with shoulder injuries which eventually led to him having shoulder surgery and missing the entire 2018 season. Guerrero has returned , and he is playing in the Appalachian League, a league where he is 0.4 years younger than league average.

So far this season, he has recorded a hit in five of the six games he has played. He hit homers in back-to-back games, and he has recorded an extra base hit in four of his first five games of the season. Impressively, he has walked more times than he has struck out. This is the best he has looked as a prospect in the Mets farm system, and if he keeps this up, we may see him return to top prospect lists.

DSL – Kenedy Corona

Season Stats: .342/.457/.526, 3 2B, 2 3B, 3 RBI, 6 SB, CS
Week Stats: .450/.560/.700, 3 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, 4 SB, CS

Earlier this year, the Mets signed Coronoa, a 19 year old outfielder from Venezuela. In the Dominican Summer League, Corona has recorded a hit in eight of the 10 games he has played, and he has reached safely in nine of those 10 games. His best game was a 3-for-6 game with two doubles, two RBI, and a stolen base against the DSL Tigers1.
