Syracuse Mets – Dilson Herrera

Week Stats: .381/.409/.857, 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, CS
Season Stats: .260/.347/.538, 8 2B, 7 HR, 19 RBI, 8 SB, CS

While Carlos Gomez was awareded with a call-up to the majors, Herrera is the former Mets prospect who was the hottest hitter in Syracuse. Over the past week, he had a six game hitting streak which included three multi-hit games. In addition to that, he had a four game streak with an extra base hit.

Herrera’s highlight of the week was his going 3-for-6 with a homer in a doubleheader against the Louisville Bats. While a highlight, it was not his best game. That came on the following day when he was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI. His solo homer in the second opened the scoring, and his sixth inning two RBI put a capper on a 12-3 route.

Overall, Herrera has been versatile playing second, third, and both corner outfield spots. He’s been hitting all season long, and recently, we have seen him begin to hit for more power. As this Mets team continues to look for some depth, Herrera continues to play like he wants to force the team to call him up at some point.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies – Patrick Mazeika

Week Stats: .333/.379/.926, 4 2B, 4 HR, 15 RBI
Season Stats: .266/.341/.476, 11 2B, 5 HR, 27 RBI

Since he was drafted, the Mets organization has been waiting for Mazeika to develop a power stroke. If and when Mazeika developed that power stroke, he was going to become a very interesting catching prospect with a real shot at making it to the Majors. There have been flashes, but with some mechanical adjustments, we may see Mazeika’s power finally coming.

During the past week, Mazeika had a five game stretch with an extra base hit. He homered in three straight and four times in a five game stretch. His best game was on May 15 when he was 3-for-4 with a double, home run, six RBI, and a walk.

After he had a 15 game hitting streak snapped, he would respond by going 3-for-8 with a homer, two RBI, and a walk over the course of his next two games. That is exactly how you respond to your first hitless game, and it is a sign that this could be more than just a hot streak for Mazeika.

St. Lucie Mets – Luis Carpio

Week Stats: .400/.478/.650, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI
Season Stats: .340/.414/.464, 4 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 2 SB, 2 CS

After shoulder injuries, Carpio resurrected his prospect status with a big July last year. This year, he started hitting and getting on base right from the beginning of the season, and in May, we have seen a power surge again from Carpio which further indicates the shoulder is no longer an issue.

During the past week, Carpio had three different two hit games. He hit so well during this stretch and over the course of the season, the Mets would promote him to Binghamton. In his first game in Binghamton, he was 2-f0r-3 with a homer, two RBI, and two walks.

Arguably, that wasn’t even Carpio’s best game of the week. That could be his 2-for4 game with two doubles against the Fort Myers Miracle. Apparently, that game was impressive enough for the Mets to promote him to Binghamton.

Columbia Fireflies – Gerson Molina

Week Stats: .412/.524/.706, 3 2B, 3B, RBI, SB
Season Stats: .310/.408/.619, 5 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, SB, CS

Molina is making up for lost time as he is getting hit after hit after hit. That includes his first three hit game as a professional. In the May 19 game against the Rome Braves, he was 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, a walk, and his first stolen base. In that game, he hit the game winning RBI in the 10th inning. Each time you see him on the field, you see how the Mets might have found a real talent. It should be exciting to watch him play and improve as the season progresses.
