Syracuse Mets – Luis Guillorme

Season Stats: .280/.394/.364, 6 2B, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 3 SB
Week Stats: .429/.538/.524, 2 2B, RBI

Guillorme had two three hit games this past week while playing well defensively at both second and short. The first was Tuesday against the Rochester Red Wings. The second was Saturday against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

This is part of a terrific stretch of games at the plate for Guillorme. Over the past 22 games, Guillorme has hit .324/.419/.446 with three doubles, two homers, and nine RBI. He has two stolen bases in as many attempts during this stretch. Again,he is doing this while playing well defensively at both middle infield positions

Binghamton Rumble Ponies – David Thompson

Binghamton Stats: .310/.333/.517, 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI
Week Stats: .333/.364/.619, 2B, 3B, HR, 3 RBI

With playing time being sparse in Syracuse, Thompson was sent to Binghamton to give him more of an opportunity to play. He has been taking full advantage of that opportunity getting a hit in seven of his eight games while playing first base.

So far, his best game was last Tuesday against the Harrisburg Senators. In the game, Thompson was 3-for-5 with two runs. That was the first of three straight games where Thompson recorded an extra base hit. This is a return of the power hitting promise Thompson showed headed into last season before suffering a broken hand on a hit by pitch.

Now that he has a fully healed hand and playing time, it will be interesting to see how well he is able to perform this season and if he can force his way back to Syracuse to get more playing time there.

St. Lucie Mets – Blake Tiberi

Season Stats: .283/.361/.385, 18 2B, HR, 19 RBI, 6 SB, 2 CS
Week Stats: .500/.591/.889, 4 2B, HR, 3 RBI

Currently, Tiberi is on a six game hitting streak which was kicked off with two multi-hit games against the Tampa Tarpons. The first was Tuesday where he was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, and an RBI. He followed that with an equally impressive performance in the ensuing game, which turned out to be a win for St. Lucie.

In that game, Tiberi was 2-for-3 with two runs, a homer, and two RBI. The homer came in third inning giving St. Lucie the lead. His next RBI was a fifth inning RBI single in a rally which would give St. Lucie the margin it needed to pull out the victory.

Columbia Fireflies – Simeon Woods Richardson

Season Stats: 1-6, 6.02 ERA, 1.339 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9, 11.6 K/9
Week Stats: W, 5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 8 K

Woods Richardson went through a seven start stretch with a 9.51 ERA. In moments like that it is important to remember, Woods Richardson is just 18 years old nearly four years younger than the South Atlantic League competition. It’s more important to remember he has great stuff.

That stuff was on display in his June 3 start against the Rome Braves. He pitched five no-hit innings against a Rome team with the the fourth most hits in the league. He struck out eight batters marking the seventh time in his 12 starts he has struck out more batters than innings pitched.

More than anything, this was the best start in his professional career. He set career highs in innings, strikeouts, and pitches while obviously allowing the fewest hits and runs in any appearance. More than the career bests, we may be seeing Woods Richardson beginning to adapt and make adjustments at this level, and it led to a great start.

DSL – Federico Polanco

Season Stats: .455/.520/.636, 2 2B, 3B, 4 RBI, CS

Polanco has been a hot hitter to start off the Dominican Summer League season. The 18 year old infielder has already has one-third the extra base hits he had in 64 games last season.
