With the first month of the season coming to a close, three of the four Mets affiliates have above .500 records. There are starting pitchers who are in the beginnings of what promises to be real breakout seasons. There are also position players who are showing they may contribute more than originally believed. These factors were present over the past week:
Syracuse Mets – Gregor Blanco
Week Stats: .350/.440/.650, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 4 BB, SB
Season Stats: .266/.351/.453, 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 3 SB, CS
Blanco is in the midst of a four game hitting streak, and he has recorded a hit in 10 of his last 11 games. With his play over the past week, he is now second on the team in homers. One of those homers was a lead-off shot in the game against Buffalo, which would prove to be the winning run in a 2-0 game. The other was a two run shot against Scranton-Wilkes Barre. That one also proved to be a game winning shot.
Binghamton Rumble Ponies – Anthony Kay
Week Stats: 1-1. 11.1 IP, 5 H, R, ER, 5 BB, 17 K
Season Stats: 1-2, 1.85 ERA, 0.986 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9, 10.7 K/9
Starting in Spring Training, Kay has made an impression on the Mets. This week was no exception as the allowed just one earned over two appearances while striking out more than a batter per inning. Overall, batters are just not making good contract against him. In addition to the strikeouts, hitters have just two extra base hits against him, both doubles. He explains this start is all about putting the work between outings:
Anthony Kay has been impressive so far for the @RumblePoniesBB. The @Mets eighth-ranked top prospect through five starts in Binghamton:
24.1 IP, 13 H, 11 BB, 29 K, 1.85 ERA.The 24-year-old expressed that he feels like he's playing his best baseball right now. @Mets_Minors pic.twitter.com/t7vtNguvYK

Kay’s best performance was his April 22nd start where he allowed just one hit over six scoreless with 10 strikeouts. It is performances like that which has started buzz that the Mets could look to him to pitch in Queens before the season is over.
St. Lucie Mets – Cody Bohanek
Week Stats: .450/.476/.600, 3 2B, 6 RBI, BB
Season Stats: .327/.465/.382, 3 2B, 9 RBI, 3 SB, 2 CS
Over this past week, Bohanek collected all three of his extra base hits to date, and he currently has a four game hitting streak. In two of those four games, Bohanek had three plus hits. That includes a 4-for-5 game where he had a 10th inning walk-off single to give St. Lucie a 10-9 win over the Florida Fire Frogs.
Columbia Fireflies – Simeon Woods Richardson
Week Stats: 0-1, 3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 7 K
Season Stats: 0-2, 1.23 ERA, 0.750 WHIP, 0.0 BB/9, 13.5 K/9
Seeing Woods Richardson take the mound and exhibit the control he has, it is very difficult to believe he was a second round pick last year. It is even more difficult to believe he is just an 18 year old who was in high school at this time last year. In his last start, Woods Richardson struck out seven over his three innings without walking a batter.
Career-high 7 strikeouts for Simeon Woods Richardson in only 3 innings with Columbia tonight. #Mets

While we do look at those big strikeout numbers, it is amazing to consider he has not walked one batter in his 14.2 innings pitched this year.
