Marcos Molina who was ranked as the Mets number 6 prospect by Baseball America earlier today has had Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2016 season. The 20-year old right handed pitcher was shutdown on two separate occasions this year with the St. Lucie Mets.

The first time came after a rough outing for St. Lucie in which he gave up six runs on eleven hits in 5.2 innings and saw diminished velocity towards the end of the start. It was reported that he was being evaluated for TJS at that time. On August 5th he made his first rehab start for the GCL Mets throwing three perfect innings with three strikeouts.

He then headed back to St. Lucie where he made two starts for the Single-A affiliate before being shutdown for the rest of the season after his final start on August 17th. He finished the season with a 4.26 ERA and 1.353 WHIP in just 44.1 innings pitched.

In 2014, Molina dominated the New York-Penn League for the Brooklyn Cyclones going 7-3 with a 1.78 ERA, 0.842 WHIP and an outstanding 5.06 SO/W ratio. He was a midseason NYPL All-Star, Short-Season All-Star according to BA, and the Mets Sterling Award winner for Brooklyn.
