Mets pitching prospects were the main focus of today’s AFL game as Peterson, Humphreys, and Taylor combined to pitch the whole game for the Scottsdale Scorpions holding the Desert Dogs to only one run on five hits while striking out ten batters.

Peterson started the game for the Scorpions and dominated across his three innings of work. He had complete command of his fastball and excellent break on his slider which combined to generate an obscene ten swinging strikes (22.2%) across the 45 pitches he threw.

Making only his third appearance since recovering from Tommy John Surgery and ulnar nerve transposition, Humphreys look just as impressive. After giving up back-to-back singles to start his night, Humphreys retired eight of the next nine batters, including three via strikeout, while generating eight swinging strikes (19.5%) across his 41 pitches thrown.

While last of the Mets trio of pitchers was saddled with the loss, Blake Taylor also had opposing batters flailing over his two innings of work with five swinging strikes (20.8%) across his 24 pitches thrown. Taylor retired the first four batters he faced in the game but left back to back pitches in the middle of the plate to Elehuris Montero and Omar Estevez which both resulted in doubles to score the game’s first run. He would re-collect himself and retire the final two batters of the game but with the Scorpions offense struggling, those doubles would end up losing the game.

Gimenez was the only Mets hitting prospect in the game and he was not immune to the Scorpions lack of offensive output. He struck out in his first two plate appearances and grounded out to short with a runner in scoring position in his third plate appearance.
