This offseason’s GM meetings in Orlando, Florida have officially begun. And, although it is reported that Sandy Alderson has yet to arrive, the talks over possible trade agreements have started.

ESPN’s Adam Rubin reports that the Mets will listen to offers on Daniel Murphy, although, chances are good he will remain on the team.

The Mets have a lot of moves to make if they wish to play any serious role in the 2014 playoff picture. Ideally they need to add two starting pitchers, an outfield, a shortstop, and a veteran catcher to backup Travis d’Arnaud.

Alderson is reportedly preparing to meet with big-name agent Scott Boras to discuss notable clients such as Shin-Soo Choo, Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Pelfrey and Stephen Drew. Their talks should leave the Mets with a good understanding on where they stand in the actual race for many of the desirable free-agents he represents.

Any moves could have significant implications on the futures of many Mets prospects.

Not all that much is expected to come out of this year’s GM Meetings alone. For the most part, this gathering serves as a launch point for future trades and movements for the upcoming season. GM’s and managers will discuss interests and weigh their options for when acquisitions are more ready to be made. More activity is expected to come from this year’s winter meetings, which are set to take place from De. 9-12.
