Eric Campbell was supposed to start in place of Lucas Duda at first base in Saturdays game, but about an hour before game time, Duda was ready to go, so Terry Collins went with his veteran player instead.

But Campbell still got his opportunity to shine in front of family and friends who flew across country to watch his debut, as he hit a sac fl in the bottom of the 6th, to temporarily put the Mets up on the Phillies, 4-3.

Adam Rubin writes that Terry Collins told reporters on Friday that he expects Lucas Duda to be unavailable Saturday as he continues to recover from a bad case of food poisoning that required hospitalization on Friday.

Campbell most likely will make his major-league debut against the Phillies at first base tonight.

Adam Rubin tweets that the Mets will promote Eric Campbell on Saturday, but who he will replace has yet to be announced.

Campbell, 27, has had an impressive year so far with the 51s and it all started during Mets spring camp when he batted .301 with six doubles, and a home run. The good at bats carried over to the Las Vegas season and through Fridays games he was batting  .355/.442/.525, which is definitely worth a promotion.

Campbell gets his chance now to prove that he can be the bat off the bench that the Mets so desperately need.
