As reported by MMN‘s own Michael Mayer, the New York Mets have promoted hard throwing right-handed relievers Michel Otanez and Bryce Montes de Oca to Triple-A Syracuse. As reported on Twitter by Ernest Dove and SNY’s Jacob Resnick, the Mets have also promoted Trey Cobb and Nate Fisher to Triple-A.

These are needed needed reinforcements for Syracuse. Their pitching depth has taken a hit recently as a result of the pitching injuries with the Major League team. Recently, Syracuse has seen Colin Holderman, Adonis Medina, Stephen Nogosek, and David Peterson promoted to the majors.

Otanez, 24, has made 14 appearances for Double-A Binghamton pitching 15 innings. He is 0-1 with six saves, a 1.80 ERA, 1.200 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9, and a 12.0 K/9. His is 6/6 in save opportunities, and his six saves were the third most in the Eastern League.

Montes de Oca, 26, has made 13 relief appearances and one start for Double-A Binghamton pitching 17 1/3 innings. He is 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.442 WHIP, 7.3 BB/9, and a 12.5 K/9. While he has struggled with walks, he has kept batters off balance as evidenced by the strikeout rate and his holding batters to a .180 batting average this season.

Both Otanez and Montes de Oca have hit 102 MPH on the gun this season.

Cobb, 27, is returning to Syracuse after making his first three relief appearances of the season with the team. In those appearances, he pitched six innings and was 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA, 1.667 WHIP, 10.5 K/9, and a 7.5 K/9. The lowered arm angle has helped Cobb limit right-handed batters to a .149/.273/.213 batting line while he has more than held his own against left-handed batters.

After being sent to Double-A and working with a lower arm angle, Cobb has pitched much better. Over nine appearances, he has pitched 19 1/3 innings and was 2-1 with a 0.47 ERA, 0.828 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9, and a 12.1 K/9.

Fisher, 26, signed with the Mets organization this past offseason after pitching in the Seattle Mariners organization from 2019 – 2021. This season, he has made 10 relief appearances and two starts for Double-A Binghamton pitching 28 2/3 innings. He is 0-1 with a 3.77 ERA, 1.047 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9, and a 12.5 K/9. He has been mostly platoon neutral, but he has certainly dominated left-handed batters limiting them to a .188/.235/.219 batting line.
