Update: Today Smith was scratched from the Fall Stars Game East Division roster without a reason given, he has not played in the last two Salt River Rafters games. He was seen leaving the game on Monday holding his wrist.
Dominic Smith has continued his breakout season earning another accolade by being named to the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars roster. Coming into today the 2015 Florida State League MVP is hitting .400/.542/.571 with three doubles, homerun and three RBI in 35 at bats for the Salt River Rafters.
Smith has been hitting out of the number three hole every game for the Rafters while splitting time between first base and DH. Rafters and 2015 Savannah Sand Gnats pitching coach Marc Valdes will be a part of the East Division Fall Stars in the same capacity.
The game will be played this Saturday at 8:08 PM ET in Phoenix, Arizona at Salt Rivers Field.
This kid can flat-out hit. His defensive skill at first base is above average. We need more players like him to support a stellar pitching staff at the MLB level. D-Smith is our starting 1st baseman for the 2017 season.
I think it will be 2018. 2016 AA 2017 AAA and a cup of coffee in Sept 2017
Boo maybe injury. Dom’s been great in 2015, and has continued in the AFL.
Bummer; I’m looking forward to catching (and meeting) Dom in AA. I bet those doubles will turn into homers.
Probably. Although they are not afraid to promote AA players. Conforto was older, though
Help me out here, prior to Conforto, who was the last AA player to make the jump?
who was the last really good position player they developed?
Really Good? The last? Murphy before him Wright.
There you go. And that was a different FO. I was thrilled when they brought Conforto from AA
Ya Smith and Conforto are too completely different cases though. If he is a regular for the Mets before 2018 I would be very surprised.
I think 2017 is more likely. Drafted young, it took some time for it to click in. He has been raking for awhile now. Is raking in the AFL
I think he will see some at bats in 2017 but Duda is still under contract so no reason besides an injury we would see him.
