Mets Prospects Among Offensive League Leaders

The New York Mets filled the upper levels of their minor league systems with former Major League players, and they had interesting prospects in the lower levels of the minor league system. Ultimately, the team would have three position players among the top 100 in the game, and they have a few more players who are nearing that status. It should then come as no surprise the Mets have had at least one player among the top 10 in an offensive category at each level of the minor leagues.

There were many positives to glean from these leaderboards. Despite having a down year, Gimenez flashed his speed as evidenced by his league rankings on the triples and stolen bases lists. The Mets also got some fine offensive production from the catcher position as shown by Mazeika’s and Regnault’s seasons.

Another catcher who had a strong offensive campaign was Francisco Alvarez. He would not appear on any leaderboards as he split his time between the Gulf Coast League and the Appalachian League. The same is the case for Mets first round pick third baseman Brett Baty. He split his time between the Gulf Coast League, Appalachian League, and the New York Penn League.

Overall, what Alvarez, Baty, and other Mets prospects like Mangum flashing his speed and defense show is it’s not just about the stats and where you ranks against the competition. Rather, at the end of the day, it is about how players progress over the course of the season. When looking at the aforementioned players along with prospects like Cortes, the Mets should be pleased with how some of their prospects developed this year.
