For the 2015 Arizona Fall League the New York Mets have sent consecutive first round picks SS Gavin Cecchini (’12) and Dominic Smith (13′) to the Arizona Fall League.

The Arizona Fall League is a showcase for Baseball’s top Prospects, and each Major League team sends 5 or 6 players each year to play on teams that the Affiliate that they agreed with. This year the Mets’ players are on the Salt River Rafters.

The games start on October 13th, and continue until November 21st, where the Championship game occurs.

  • SS Gavin Cecchini had a great year, silencing doubters who said he could not hit. In 109 games Cecchini hit .317/.377/.442, with 37 extra base hits including 26 doubles, 4 triples, and 7 home runs. However, his defense was shaky with a large amount of throwing errors. His season was cut short after numerous hip and groin injuries, with the last one, a Hip Impingement, ending his season before the playoffs. He hopes to turn it around in the Arizona Fall League
  • 1B Dominic Smith turned around his season, hitting .194/.250/.237 in his first 25 games, and then rebounding to hit .334/.381/.464 in the next 93 games, and pace the league in doubles with 33. In addition, he hit 6 times as many home runs as last year (from 1 to 6). It was truly a year to put Dominic back on the map. If he can improve his power hitting, he can be a potential monster in the Mets’ Future. Unfortunately, his season was cut short as well with a left shoulder injury, but he hopes to remain healthy in the Arizona Fall League.

In Addition to Dominic Smith and Gavin Cecchini, the following 4 will also play on the Salt River Rafters and represent the Mets:

  • RHP Mickey Jannis
  • RHP Mike Hepple
  • LHP Kyle Regnault
  • RHP Beck Wheeler

Jannis and Wheeler are interesting names as Jannis is an older knuckleballer and Wheeler performed very well in Binghamton last year as a reliever.
