The 48th overall pick in this year’s MLB draft is officially off the market, people.
#Mets sign 2nd-rder Andrew Church for $850k. Nevada HS RHP has 90-95 fastball, flashes plus curve, San Diego recruit. #mlbdraft

The Mets had gone over-slot on a couple picks, but saved some money with Church. The slot price for this spot in the draft was $1,138,800. This signing leaves 11th overall pick Dominic Smith as the only player drafted by New York in the top 10 rounds to not be officially signed yet. From reports that surfaced last week, the left-handed hitter will eventually be heading to rookie ball with the GCL Mets.
Want to get to know Church a little better? Take a look at Teddy Klein’s analysis from last week.

Niiiiiiice!!! Did we sign OF Ivan Wilson yet? I dont remember seeing any formal announcement on this.
Good under slot signing for a kid, who seems to have a (fresh, not very abused) live arm. Does anybody have the numbers as to how many pitchers the Mets drafted this year that can throw 3+ pitches? Not saying they have 3 PLUS pitches, but rather have the ability to throw more than 3 pitches for strikes.
Yes, for $624,900.
We also signed our other third rounder, C. Meisner, for $500,000.
So how far over/under are the Mets with signing bonuses right now?
About $123,000 over right now, thanks to Church.
I’ll work on a major update for tomorrow…
