Jacob Resnick of SNY reports the New York Mets have signed Jose Rodriguez to a minor league deal. Rodriguez, 26, pitched between Double-A and Triple-A in the Atlanta Braves organization last season.
Between Double-A and Triple-A, Rodriguez was 7-7 with a 4.47 ERA, 1.222 WHIP, and an 8.3 K/9. In eight minor league seasons, he is 40-46 with a 4.70 ERA, 1.412 WHIP, and an 8.4 K/9.

While Rodriguez has been used predominantly as a starter in the minors, nine of his 10 Major League appearances have been as a reliever. Rodriguez pitched briefly in the majors for the Los Angeles Angles in 2019 and 2020. In those 10 appearances, he was 0-1 with a 2.53 ERA, 1.453 WHIP, and a 5.5 K/9.
As noted by Baseball Savant, Rodriguez is a four pitch pitcher. He has a low 90s fastball which has a low spin rate. Rodriguez has a curve with a good spin rate, but he does not feature the pitch. His slider has swing and miss potential. Overall, Rodriguez presents good upper level depth for a Mets system which needs it.
