According to Baseball America and their recent minor league transactions updates the Mets have signed right-handed pitcher Luis Chirinos to a minor league deal. The 25-year old pitched in the American Association (Independent Ball) during the 2015 season going 6-7 with a 4.70 ERA and 1.591 WHIP. He pitched 88 innings over 19 appearances with 16 of them being starts.

His first season in the professional baseball was as a 17-year old with the Marlins in 2007. For his career in the minor leagues he is 19-18 with a 3.85 ERA, 1.375 WHIP, and has struck out 223 batters in 275.2 innings.

BA also announced the Mets released pitchers Derrick Bernard and Jose Martinez. Bernard did not pitch in 2015 because he was suspended for testing positive for a drug of abuse. Martinez was suspended last month when he tested positive for Stanozolol.

They also released infielder Luis Crisostomo who hit .178/.234/.215 in 2015 for the GCL Mets.
