Mets Sign Right-Handed Pitcher Cole Sulser to Minor League Deal

The New York Mets announced on Monday that they signed right-handed pitcher Cole Sulser to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training.

Sulser, a 33-year-old veteran was drafted in 2013 in the 25th round at pick No. 741 by the Cleveland Indians, where he spent five season in the minor leagues before being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018. He spent the 2019 season with Tampa, making his MLB debut that season.

Following the 2019 season, he was claimed off of waivers by the Baltimore Orioles where he spent the next two seasons. In 2020 he was 1-5 with a 5.56 ERA. He struck out 19 over the course of 22 2/3 innings pitched. He was 5-4 with a 2.70 ERA in 2021 with the Orioles, striking out 73 over the course of 63 1/3 innings pitched.

At the start of the 2022 season, Sulser was traded from Baltimore to the Miami Marlins where he spent the entirety of that season and fluctuated between Triple-A Jacksonville and the big league club after spending time on the injured list and making rehab assignments with Single-A Jupiter.

During his time with Miami in 2022, he was 1-4, with a 5.29 ERA. He struck out 38 over the course of 34 innings pitched. He gave up 39 hits, 20 earned runs, and six home runs. He had a WHIP in 2022 of 1.62.

Most recently, after being claimed off waivers at the end of the 2022 season, Sulser spent the 2023 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA. He only pitched in four games (5 1/3 innings pitched) due to injury. He struck out four and gave up five hits and four earned runs in 2023.
