Francisco Alvarez has been one of the best hitters in all of Minor League Baseball in 2021 and he continued that trend on Sunday for the St. Lucie Mets.

Sources indicate that will be the last game Álvarez plays for St. Lucie, he’s expected to be promoted to the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones in time for their next game on Tuesday.

Álvarez, still only 19-years old, went 2-for-6 on Sunday with his second home run of the season. He also knocked in three runs in the Mets 9-4 win.

Here’s how Álvarez ranks among 910 minor league qualified hitters:

.417 AVG – 5th

.567 OBP – 1st

.646 SLG – 37th

.565 wOBA – 3rd

227 wRC+ – 7th

2.14 BB-K – 4th

As you can see, Álvarez was not being challenged at all in Low-A ball. In fact, he’s been pitched around in multiple games this season and has 15 walks compared to only seven walks in 15 games. These numbers are also coupled with the fact that Álvarez was banged up for a few days following a hard collision at home plate.

Digging a bit deeper, and it shouldn’t surprise you to know that Álvarez is also tied for the league with his 94.5 mph average exit velocity.

Álvarez is no longer just one of the best catching prospects in baseball, but one of the best position players in the minor leagues. Keith Law had him ranked No. 19 in his top 100 prospects before the season, while MLB Pipeline and Baseball America both had him at No. 48. Have to imagine he moves up in those updated lists.

In Brooklyn, he will join fellow top five Mets prospects in shortstop Ronny Mauricio and third baseman Brett Baty.
