Farewell To Port. St. Lucie

The Mets wrapped up their spring games in Florida by losing to the Washington Nationals 4-0 at Traditon Field today. The Mets sent Cory Mazzoni to the mound to face Nationals starter Jordan Zimmerman. The loss dropped the Mets Grapefruit League record to 14-14.

Mazzoni threw 1.2 innings, giving up a run on three hits, walking a batter and strike out two. During the second inning, he grabbed his right arm and was removed from the game, which beat writers are reporting that it may be a triceps issue. The last time he faced the Nationals was his worse game of the spring when he gave up seven runs on five hits in one inning.  But he has actually pitched better than his 13.50 ERA suggests and hopefully this injury is minor and won’t cost him to lose any time.

John Lannan followed and tossed 1.1 innings, not allowing a hit or a run. Scott Rice threw an inning, giving up a hit and strike out a batter.

Jeurys Familia was tagged for two runs on four hits in 1.1 innings, which were the first runs that he gave up all spring.

Kyle Farnsworth pitched the top of the ninth and gave up a run on two hits and struck out a batter.

Eric Young Jr. who finished 3 for 4, batted lead-off, started in left field and then was shifted to play shortstop.

The heart of the order which the organization hopes will take the Mets over the top were a combined 3 for 14, with Daniel Murphy (1 for 2), David Wright (0 for 3), Curtis Granderson (0 for 3, 3 K’s), Chris Young (0 for 3, K) and Ike Davis (2 for 3).

Travis d’Arnaud and Ruben Tejada each finished the game 0 for 3.

Hopefully the Mets will really turn it on once the season starts on Monday against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.

What’s Next:

The Mets will be leaving Florida and heading to Montreal to face the Toronto Blue Jays at Olympic Stadium with the first pitch at 7:05 pm. Jenrry Mejia will face off against Mark Buehrle.
