With the Mets farm system not being well regarded entering the 2018 season, and with the team trading away big prospects like Jarred Kelenic, it left many to wonder how the Mets position player prospects compared to the others in the game. It may come as a surprise the Mets are a farm system on the rise.

MiLB.com has ranked the Mets position player prospects as the 13th best in baseball due to their “fun combination of a big name coming up now and plenty of potential talent for the future.” In the rankings, MiLB cited how Peter Alonso is coming off a big season which is an indicator of h0w he could hit for power at Citi Field.

The other fact cited was how talented the left side of the Mets infield is stocked with talent. Notably, Andres Gimenez, Ronny Mauricio, Shervyen Newton, and Mark Vientos are coming off impressive seasons. This is not just a talented group, but a young one too. Gimenez is the oldest at just 20 years old, and Mauricio is the youngest at 18.

It is interesting to note the Mets are one spot behind the Houston Astros in the rankings. While the players were not specifically mentioned in the analysis, it is quite possible the Astros adding Ross Adolph, Scott Manea, and Luis Santana in the trade to obtain J.D. Davis could have pushed them just ahead of the Mets organization.

Overall, while the Mets are rated 13th, they have the third best position player prospects in the National League East. The organization is well ahead of the Marlins (25) and Phillies (24), but they are also behind the Nationals and Braves, who are considered to be in top 10 all of baseball.

It will be interesting to see how well regarded the Mets system will be next year. While Alonso may graduate from prospect status, the team should still have their impressive collection of left side of the infield prospects who seem primed for a big 2019 season.
