Minor League Baseball Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, Morgan Sword identified the current relationship between Major League Baseball and Minor League baseball as having “never been stronger,” and on Thursday, Minor League Baseball unveiled a new logo that reflects the closeness of the relationship.
The new “modernized” logo continues to feature the well-known MLB silhouetted batter as the main image that reflects the close-knit relationship between Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball. The small baseball on the left hand side of the batter has been removed from the new logo. But new on the right hand side of the batter, in a diagonal fashion are four starts reflecting both the player progression through the three main minor league levels (High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A), along with the fourth star that represents Major League Baseball players of the future.
Minor League Baseball’s previous logo was navy blue on the left and had a red corner on the right. In the new logo unveiled by Minor League Baseball on Thursday, the logo features a duo-tone blue color scheme that is representative of baseball’s heritage. The “lighter hue represents bright futures of players on their journey; darker blue helps the stars shine by increasing their contrast,” noted Minor League Baseball’s description of the logo.
The font-type of the logo has also been slightly altered.
Sword reiterated how Minor League Baseball, the players, fans, and those involved in the front offices of the teams play a large role in growing baseball around the world.
“We are thrilled to introduce a new logo signifying that opportunity,” said Sword. Both Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball have been testing new on and off-field elements to increase and better the fan experience within ballparks. Minor League Baseball Senior Director of Marketing, Kristin Barnett describes the new logo as “one small, but important step toward recognizing MiLB as part of the broader ‘one baseball’ initiative.
Minor League Baseball’s new “one baseball” logo will make its debut on Saturday night during the Triple-A National Championship Game broadcast. It will then be used within the production of the new Minor League Baseball awards show on October 2nd and from then will begin to be implemented across all Minor League Baseball media platforms and will be changed and put into official use prior to Minor League Baseball opening day 2024.
As Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball continue to grow their relationship and elevate their awareness of the fan experience, the new logo will bridge the gap as part of this marketing effort. 2024 is the year of “one baseball.”
