MMN‘s own Michael Mayer reports the New York Mets have reassigned 3B Brett Baty, CF Jake Mangum, UTIL Matt Reynolds, and LHP Rob Zastryzny to minor league camp. With these moves, RHP Jose Rodriguez, LHP Chasen Shreve, and OF Travis Jankowski remain the only non-roster invitees in Spring Training.

With the Shreve signing, Zastrzny was all but taken out of the left-handed reliever competition. By all projections, Shreve is anticipated to make the Opening Day roster, which would require a move with the 40 man roster. On that note, Joey Lucchesi can be transferred to the 60 day IL to open up a spot and not require designating a player for assignment.

Baty appeared in seven games this Spring. He was 2-for-8 with a run, walk, and four strikeouts. Mangum appeared in eight games this Spring. He was 3-for-9 with two strikeouts and a caught stealing. Both players finished the 2021 season with Binghamton, and they may be assigned there to begin the season.

With Opening Day two weeks away, we should continue to see the Mets make additional roster moves to get down to the 28 players who will make the Opening Day roster. After May 1, the roster size will drop down to the traditional 26 meaning two more Mets players will be sent down to the minors.

In other news, both OF Stanley Consuegra and INF Wilmer Reyes homered in a minor league Spring Training game on Sunday. Both players are having a strong Spring after dealing with a number of injury issues the past few seasons.

Consuegra was limited to just 20 games last season for the FCL Mets. In those 20 games, Consuegra did hit .270/.325/.500. Notably with Consuegra, he was rated as MMN‘s sixth best Mets prospect after the conclusion of the 2020 season. Mostly due to the injuries, Consuegra was not ranked in this year’s top 30.

Last season, Reyes was limited to just 16 games. However, he did perform in those games hitting .345/.409/.483 in 16 games split between FCL and Brooklyn. He followed that with a disappointing performance in the Arizona Fall League where he hit .219/.324/.328 over 19 games.
