Triple-A
Syracuse Mets (50-29) 8, Buffalo Bisons (38-41) 5 In 10 Innings

BOX SCORE

  • RF Carlos Cortes 2-for-5, 2 R, 2 HR (6), 5 RBI, K (.901 OPS)
  • SS Luisangel Acuña 1-for-5, 2 R, HR (5), RBI, K (.704 OPS)
  • 3B Pablo Reyes 3-for-5, 2 R, HR (5), 2 RBI (.901 OPS)

The longball carried Syracuse to an extra-inning win over Buffalo. First the very first pitch of the game, the Mets were providing power – Luisangel Acuña teed off on his fifth home run of the year in the first inning.

Mike Brosseau gave Syracuse the lead in extra innings with an RBI single, scoring the free baserunner. After a Pablo Reyes single, Carlos Cortes launched his second homer of the night, giving the Mets a comfortable four-run lead. Cortes, who has spent three separate stints on the developmental list, has had an interesting year–he has a .901 OPS for the season and a slash line of .390/.432/.756 (1.188 OPS) in June. The 27-year-old is spending his second season in Syracuse and has posted solid numbers across his five and a half years in the Mets organization. He could become a quality outfield depth piece for the major league club in the future.

  • LHP Joey Lucchesi (4.46 ERA) 6 1/3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K (93 pitches/ 62 strikes)
  • RHP Eric Orze 1 1/3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Max Kranick 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 3 K

Lucchesi needed a quality start for Syracuse after several tough outings, and he delivered. He gave the Mets six and a third innings on the mound and saw a return to his season averages in velocity and spin rates, which had plagued him in his last two starts.

Double-A

Portland Sea Dogs (35-37), Binghamton Rumble Ponies (36-34) Postponed

Due to inclement weather, Saturday’s Rumble Ponies game against the Portland Sea Dogs was postponed. Saturday’s game will be made up as part of a doubleheader against the Sea Dogs on Tuesday, August 13.

High-A
Brooklyn Cyclones (35-39) 3, Aberdeen IronBirds (40-34) 8

BOX SCORE

Brooklyn kept pace with Aberdeen through the first two innings, maintaining a 2-2 tie, but as the Cyclones’ bats cooled off, the IronBirds’ offense continued to produce. Led by two RBI apiece from Mac Horvath, Maxwell Costes, and Adam Retzbach, Aberdeen cruised an easy win over Brooklyn.

Jesus Baez hit his first High-A home run, his third extra-base hit since his promotion to Brooklyn (5 games).

Orellana pitched in his second abbreviated outing since coming off the injured list, going only one inning, but got rocked pretty hard– allowing four hits and two runs (one unearned). Before his injury, Orellana, along with Jonah Tong, were stars in the Brooklyn rotation. As he eases his way back into going farther into games, he’ll try to find that success that he had in the first quarter of the season.

Low-A
St. Lucie Mets (24-50) 1, Palm Beach Cardinals (41-32) 5

BOX SCORE
