Syracuse Mets (0-1) 3, Pawtucket Red Sox (1-0) 6 (F/10) Box Score

Santiago got the start for Syracuse on Opening Day against the Pawtucket Red Sox. He cruised through the first four innings of work before running into trouble in the top of the fifth inning. After inducing a flyout to start the fifth, Santiago surrendered a single to Sandy Leon and a two-run home run to Mike Miller.

With the Mets leading 3-2, Zamora allowed a game-tying home run to lead off the eighth inning. Jacob Rhame and O’Rourke combined to send the game to extra innings. Entering the 10th inning, a runner was placed on second base for Pawtucket. O’Rourke allowed a single and a walk to load the bases. A bases-clearing double gave Pawtucket a 6-3 lead.

The Syracuse lineup combined for 6 hits in the season opener. Hechavarria collected the first hit for Syracuse with a single in the third inning. In the fifth inning, he hit a leadoff double and came around to score on a David Thompson groundout. Danny Espinosa and Davis singled and Travis Taijeron hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to give Syracuse a 3-2 lead. They went down in order in the tenth inning of the 6-3 loss.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (1-0) 5, New Hampshire Fisher Cats (0-1) 2 Box Score

Kay earned the initial start of the season for Binghamton and tossed 4.2 innings without allowing an earned run. He walked one batter in each of the first two innings. In the third inning, Kay allowed three singles to load the bases, and with two outs, an error by shortstop Andres Gimenez allowed a run to score.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Ryder Ryan walked Kacy Clemens, and a wild pitch advanced the runner to second. A groundout and an error by first baseman Patrick Mazeika allowed Clemens to score.

Five Rumble Ponies pitchers combined to strike out nine Fisher Cats and surrender zero earned runs. Both runs for New Hampshire were unearned.

Binghamton collected six hits and six walks to drive in five runs against New Hampshire. Toffey led off the top of the second inning with a walk. An Ali Sanchez groundout moved Toffey to second base and a single from Barrett Barnes brought him in. Two batters later, Jason Krizan reached on a fielding error, allowing Barnes to score.

In the top of the eighth inning, Binghamton owned a 3-2 lead over New Hampshire. With the bases loaded, Jason Krizan lined a single into center field to score two runs and extend the lead to three runs. The Rumble Ponies closed out Opening Day with a 5-2 win as Stephen Villines collected the save.

Bradenton Marauders (1-0) 1, St. Lucie Mets (0-1) 0 Box Score

St. Lucie pitchers combined to limit Bradenton to seven hits and one run on Opening Day. Smith allowed a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Gilliam, a fifth-round pick in 2018, tossed two scoreless innings and collected five strikeouts while allowing two hits.

The St. Lucie lineup struggled to generate much of anything on Opening Day. Cortes singled in the second inning but was stranded at first base. In the third inning, Cody Bohanek was hit by a pitch and stole second base. He was tagged out at third base on a fielder’s choice, allowing Hansel Moreno to reach first. Moreno stole second base but was stranded as the rehabbing d’Arnaud grounded out.

St. Lucie combined to collect three hits and three walks while striking out five times.

Charleston RiverDogs (1-0) 2, Columbia Fireflies (0-1) 1 Box Score

Woods Richardson, an 18-year-old right-hander, got the start for Columbia. A second-round pick by the Mets in 2018, he allowed three hits and two earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. He struck out four batters before being lifted with 39 pitches (a 40-pitch limit had been predetermined).

The Columbia bullpen combined for 7.1 scoreless innings of work. Three relievers allowed only two hits while striking out nine.

The Columbia offense combined for seven hits and one run. Vientos led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single. After a Chase Chambers flyout, Senger doubled to score Vientos from first.

Shortstop prospect Mauricio failed to get a hit in the season opener, and only Senger collected more than one hit for the Fireflies.
