Minors Recap: Sproat, Hamel and Morris Shine on Mound

Pitching was the story in the Mets minor leagues on Thursday night, with Brandon Sproat, Dom Hamel and Kade Morris all turning in notable performances.

Triple-A
Syracuse Mets (48-29) 1, Buffalo Bisons (38-39) 5

The Mets produced only three hits on Thursday, and two of them came in the top of the ninth inning.

  • RHP Dom Hamel (6.64 ERA) 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R (3 ER), 1 BB, 9 K

Hamel came into the game with more walks (28) than strikeouts (26) in his last eight starts, so Thursday night was an important start for the right-hander.

The 21-year-old Ramírez has a .996 OPS over his last nine games. Both Rowdey Jordan and Wyatt Young had two RBIs in the game for Binghamton.

Sproat lowered his season ERA down to 1.61 and his impressive Double-A WHIP is 0.89 through seven starts. His fastball was up to 100 mph on the night.

BOX SCORE

The Cyclones continued their offensive struggles on Thursday, mustering only five hits and striking out 15 times. Second baseman Junior Tilien knocked in the only Brooklyn run with a double.

Houck gave the Mets a ninth-inning insurance run with his third homer of the season. Catcher Vincent Perozo also hit a solo home run in the third inning.

Arnaud threw the hardest pitch of the night in the Florida State League at 98.3 mph.

The DSL Mets lost both of their games on Thursday and combined for only five hits.
