MLB Pipeline has updated their top 100 prospects, and there is significant New York Mets prospect related news. First and foremost, Francisco Álvarez is no longer deemed a top 100 prospect because he has graduated from official prospect status.

As noted by Sam Dykstra, a prospect graduates from that status when they’ve accumulated 45 days of service. That means Álvarez is no longer deemed a prospect. Álvarez is far from the only prospect who has graduated, and as a result, they opted to re-rank their top 15 prospects.

With the updated vote, Brett Baty is now the Mets top rated prospect. He is the 10th overall prospect in the game. With Jordan Walker having already moved to the outfield, that leaves Baty as the top overall third base prospect in baseball.

Baty is one of five Mets prospects on the updated rankings. The other four Mets ranked by MLB Pipeline are:

28. Kevin Parada, C
82. Alex Ramirez, CF
91. Jett Williams, SS
97. Ronny Mauricio, SS

Mauricio had been a one-time fixture among top 100 prospect rankings. In fact, MLB Pipeline ranked him among the top 100 during the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons. However, with Mauricio’s approach at the plate, he had been dropped from the rankings entering the 2023 season. In adding him back to the rankings, Dykstra said:

Ronny Mauricio dropped out of the Top 100 in the past because of approach and on-base concerns, but after winning LIDOM MVP honors this winter, he’s still hitting the ball as hard as ever while striking out less. His move to second base portends a callup to Queens.

Notably, with five prospects in the top 100, the Mets stand out as one of the strongest farm systems in baseball. In fact, only the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, and Cleveland Guardians had more prospects ranked on the top 100 than the Mets.

Of course, the Mets are going to soon drop down to four prospects in the top 100 with Baty nearing graduation from prospect status. Of course, the farm system taking a hit because your prospects are graduating to become productive Major League players is a very good problem to have.
