MLB Pipeline released their latest MLB mock draft on Wednesday. In their latest breakdown of most possible scenarios for round one on July 11, they have the New York Mets selecting right-handed pitcher Ty Madden from Texas with the No. 10 overall draft pick.

Madden is MLB’s No. 9 prospect in this year’s draft. He was drafted previously by the Kansas City Royals in the 34th round of the 2018 MLB draft out of Cypress Ranch High School, but continued to pursue his academic career & pitch collegiately for Texas.

The 6’3”, 215lb pitcher from Texas topped out his fastball at 95 mph in high school andis now averaging between 93-96 with sink and reached as high as 99 mph during the fall season. He is also known for his slider that has a velocity in the mid-80’s and a fading low-80’s changeup as well. Rounding out his repertoire is his curveball that reaches the upper 70 mph range.

Madden is 7-4 in 2021 with a 2.59 ERA over the course of 94 innings pitched. He has recorded an impressive 110 strikeouts. He has thrown three games where he has struck out double digits (11 against BYU on February 26, 14 against Houston on March 5, 12 against Oklahoma on April 24). He has walked just 35 batters and averages six innings pitched per game. He threw a complete game against Houston on March 5, 2021, giving up just two hits, two walks, and striking out 14.

Over the course of his career (three seasons at Texas), Madden is 14-5 with a 2.68 ERA over the course of 161.1 innings pitched. He has struck out 173 and walked just 63.

Our own Doug M recently took a deep look at Madden.

MLB Pipeline also says the Mets could be looking at Sal Frelick, infielder out of Boston College; Sam Bachman, right-handed pitcher from Miami; and Colton Cowser from Sam Houston. While these players are ones the Mets could be looking at, MLB Pipeline says Madden is the most likely pick at No. 10 for the Mets.
