Syracuse is going to play this game without the New York Mets’ top two prospects. Francisco Álvarez traveled to New York to join the team due to the injury to Omar Narváez. Brett Baty left the game on Tuesday with thumb inflammation but is expected to rejoin the lineup soon.

This is the start of a big year for prospects like JT Schwartz, Brandon McIlwain, and Wyatt Young. They are on the cusp of the Mets top 30 prospect rankings and with a breakout season, they could find themselves vaulting up the list.

THREE THINGS TO WATCH:

1. Vientos, 3B: With Baty sitting out the last game, Vientos moved across the diamond from first to third. In spring, Vientos looked much better at the position than he has in recent years, but he is still behind Baty. Vientos does have some opportunity to show he can handle the position better than most believe he can.

2. What’s the Catch? With Álvarez likely being recalled on Friday, Michael Perez may get extended playing time behind the plate for Syracuse. It also creates an opportunity for Hayden Senger. Senger was considered a top 20 Mets prospect a year ago, but he struggled last season, and he has been held back a level partially due to Álvarez ‘s presence. A hot start to the season could see him getting a promotion to Syracuse sooner than anticipated.

3. Tony, Tony, Tony Mets pitching prospect Tony Dibrell gets his second start of the season after initially being announced as a reliever when Syracuse released their Opening Day rosters. He pitched two scoreless in his first start of the season before getting knocked out of the game in the fourth. He gets another opportunity to show he can stick in the rotation.
