Position Player – Dilson Herrera

Season Stats: .258/.355/.566, 17 2B, 17 HR, 38 RBI, 8 SB, 3 CS
June Stats: .276/.364/.632, 7 2B, 8 HR, 12 RBI, CS

It may be easy to forget this since he debuted for the Mets in 2014, but Herrera is just 25 years old. With him being just 25, we can and should expect him to continue to improve. He’s done just that this year.

Herrera’s batting average and slugging has improved every month this season. During the month, he had an 11 game hitting streak, a streak of reaching base safely in 16 straight games, and he finished the month reaching safely in 17 of his last 19 games.

More impressive than that, he had a streak with homers in three straight games. He’d also hit three homers in a doubleheader.

With that, he’s now moved into the top 10 in homers and SLG in the International League. With him playing more at other positions like first and both corner outfield spots, you could see the possibility of his returning to Queens.

Honorable Mention: Luis Guillorme hit .345/.429/.483 during the month, and Ali Sanchez hit .375/.416/.472. Both would continue playing their usual terrific defense.

Starting Pitcher – Kyle Wilson

Season Stats: 4-7, 3.50 ERA, 1.542 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9, 5.8 K/9
June Stats: 1-2, 2.57 ERA, 1.643 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9, 5.8 K/9

During the Month of June, Wilson had some truly impressive performances. On three separate occasions, Wilson would pitch over six innings allowing two earned runs or fewer. In four of his six starts, he would allow five hits or fewer. Over the course of the month, while it was not smooth, you could see him getting better and better.

His most impressive start came on the last day of the month. Wilson would face a lineup with five of the top 20 prospects in the Phillies system as rated by MLB Pipeline: Simon Muzziotti (12), Jhailyn Ortiz (11), Nick Maton (18), Rodolfo Duran (19), and Daniel Brito (20). Against, that lineup, Wilson would allow only five hits over seven innings. He’d finish the game strong retiring 10 of the last 12 batters he faced.

Honorable Mention: Simeon Woods Richardson had a 2.38 ERA and struck out 11.5 batters per nine. Chris Mazza was named the International League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 16, 2019, and he was called-up to the majors.

Reliever – Adonis Uceta

Season Stats: 3-2, 2.02 ERA, 2 SV, 1.065 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, 8.3 K/9
June Stats: 1-0, 2.13 ERA, 1.184 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9, 7.8 K/9

When Uceta was first converted to a reliever in 2017, he was a revelation pitching to a 1.51 ERA as he would go from Columbia to Binghamton in one season. Unfortunately, Uceta would battle injuries from the beginning of Spring Training and right through the 2018 season. This year, he’s healthy and once again performing well.

Currently, he has a streak of three scoreless appearances where he has pitched 4.1 innings. Over the course of the month, he had not allowed a run in five of his seven appearances. Overall, on the season, he has just two appearances where has allowed more than one run. He has zero appearances where he has allowed more than two.

One of the keys for him is he is back to pitching like Uceta. He has recorded a strikeout in 12 straight appearances with him striking out more than one batter in nine of those appearances. He is throwing strikings 67 percent of the time, and he has allowed just one homer all season long. In fact, opposing batters are only hitting .219/.279/.303 off of him.

Overall, this is why Uceta has returned to being the promising reliever he seemed to be two years ago, and it is why he is once again an All-Star.

Honorable Mention: Stephen Nogosek did not allow a run in eight Triple-A appearances leading to his promotion to the majors. Blake Taylor had a 1.98 ERA and 14.5 K/9 in eight appearances between St. Lucie and Binghamton.
