Akeel Morris

Congratulations to Akeel Morris for being named MMN Pitcher of the Week.

Morris has been heating up at a fast pace even before this week, as he has been racking up the strikeouts all season long.

In 13.2 innings pitched so far, he’s tallied 22 strikeouts. He could cut down on his walks somewhat as he’s allowed eight in those 13.2 innings but when he’s striking out guys at this rate, and with a 0.00 ERA, you really can’t complain at all. While the baseball odds at Allpro say it’s improbable this level of performance continues, it’s remarkable to see.

It was his two multi-inning appearances this week that have earned him Pitcher of the Week honors.

On April 23rd, Morris went three innings and allowed two hits and a walk but he also punched out three batters in the process.

Four days later on April 27th, Morris went two innings while striking out another three batters and only allowing a walk.

Like his 0.00 ERA suggests, Morris has not allowed a run in his 6 games this season. He has also held opponents to an .073 batting average against.

Akeel Morris has all the makings of a successful big league reliever with an electric mid 90’s fastball and a reliable curveball.

If he can develop a third pitch and improve his command, he might even have a future as a starter. Nonetheless, it is very encouraging to see this kind of dominance from him at such a young age.
