Congratulations to Las Vegas 51s starter Jacob deGrom for being named the MMN Pitcher of the Week.

DeGrom, #13 on the Mets top prospect list, has basically out-pitched #1 Noah Syndergaard and #2 Rafael Montero so far this season.

DeGrom, entered his 4th season in the Mets organization in 2014, and he has shown very quickly that maybe he should be in the running for which top pitching prospect makes it to Flushing first.

In 2013, he pitched the second half of the season with Las Vegas and finished 4-2 with a 4.52 ERA in 14 starts. He was invited to the Mets 2014 big club spring training camp and in four games, he was 1-0, with a 1.23 ERA, allowing one run on four hits, and seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings of relief. The opponents also only batted .167 against him.

At 6’4, deGrom is two inches shorter than Thor, but has pitched just as big as the hype surrounding Syndergaard and Montero. He is the best pitcher so far for Vegas this season and has proved that with his 4-0 record, 1.89 ERA.

DeGrom is having a great start to the 2014 season and there isn’t any doubt that he will continue to progress and force the Mets to take at very close look at him first when they decide on who they will promote come this summer.

May 1st Start: DeGrom (1-0), 5.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Ricky Knapp, SP – Savannah Sand Gnats

Knapp (0-2) came into the week looking for his first win of the season, and he didn’t disappoint with a great outing against Delmarva on April 30th, and he earned his first victory.

April 30 –  (1-0), 7.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 6 K.

Luis Cessa, SP – St. Luice Mets

After a rough four starts that saw Cessa fall to 0-3, he had a great outing against Bradenton on May 3rd to earn his first win of the season.

May 3 – (1-0), 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K.

Michael Fulmer, SP – St. Lucie Mets

It took Fulmer five starts before he would finally earn his first victory on the season. On May 1st he faced Bradenton and his offense made sure that he would be in line for a decision as they pounded Bradenton pitching 11-0.

May 1 –  (1-0), 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K.
