Congratulations to Las Vegas 51s Wilmer Flores for being named the MMN Player of the Week for April 28-May 4th.

Flores came into the week batting .290 and after an 0 for 1 on Monday April 28th, he went on a tear batting .533 (8 for 15) and closed out the weekend by launching three home runs in two games. After Sunday’s game he is now batting .290, (29 for 100), with four home runs and 19 RBI’s.

The top prospect, who the Mets were hoping could possible take over their shortstop woes, has actually played 21 games at the position at Vegas, and has a .939 Fld % with six errors in 94 chances. Even with the work he has put in, there isn’t any guarantee that he will take over the position on the big club, but the 22 year old native of Venezuela, has earned the right with this past weeks performance, to be considered if the Mets need another bat.

April 28 – May 4: .500 (8 for 16), 4 R, 1 Double, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 1 BB.

Honorable Mentions:

ST. LUCIE METS – INF/DH T.J. Rivera

What can be said that hasn’t already been mentioned about T.J. Rivera other than he is just unstoppable. Rivera has not stopped hitting since the season started and he just continues to add to his already league leading stats. There may not be much else he has to prove that this level as he continues to lead the FSL and Mets with 46 hits and a .411 batting average. He also leads the team, with 10 doubles, and tied with Aderlin Rodriguez with four home runs. He has hit safely in 9 out of his last 10 games and recorded five of his 15 multi-hit games on the season during that span.

April 28 – May 4: .440 (11 for 25), 5 R, 3 Doubles, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 1 BB.

SAVANNAH SAND GNATS – SS Gavin Cecchini

Gavin Cecchini, entering 2014 as #9 on the Mets top prospect list, has been on fire the past week for the Sand Gnats. The 20 year old shortstop came into the week batting .224, but with 11 hits in 23 at bats, he has raised his average 54 points to .278 and helped Savannah to a 5-1 week, improving the defending SAL champs to 19-9 and first place in the Southern Division. He has a seven game hit streak and has hit safely 8 of his last 10 games.

April 28 – May 4: .478 (11 for 23), 5 R, Double, Triple, 3 RBI, 3 BB.

LAS VEGAS 51S- OF/INF Andrew Brown

Andrew Brown, who was sent to Vegas on April 21st to make room on the big club for Bobby Abreu, has been on fire since then. With the Mets this season, Brown batted .185 (5 for 27), but since he started to play with Vegas on April 24th, he has a 10 game hit streak and is batting .410 (16 for 39), with four home runs and 12 RBI’s. Brown has joined a 51s offense that has enough talent to win it all, but the way he has been hitting the ball, the Mets may need to call him back for that needed offense on the big club.

April 28 – May 4: .455 (10 for 22), 5 R, 2 Doubles, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 4 BB.

ST. LUCIE METS- INF Jairo Perez

Jairo Perez, who the Mets signed in the free agent infielder during the off season and sent him to play on the St. Lucie roster. Perez, 25, had a solid showing in the Venezuelan Winter League where he batted .342/.407/.591 with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 35 RBI in 149 at-bats. Perez, who was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2006 by the Minnesota Twins, was released after the 2012 season, in which he suffered one injury after another, including undergoing Tommy John surgery. This season with the Mets, he started out strong batting .375 (9 for 24) before being sidelined on the 15 day DL with a minor injury. Upon his return he has done nothing but hit and has a seven game hit streak and is batting .385 (10 for 26). He is a very good bat in the middle of a very potent St. Lucie offense.

April 28 – May 4: .444 (8 for 18), 3 R, 1 Double, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 1 BB.
