Dominic Smith, the Mets #1 pick in the 2013 June Amateur draft, and #3 on the teams Top Prospect list, has started to shake off his early season rust and show how good he truly is.

The California native started the 2014 season with a slow start and even though he finished April strong he only batted .217 (18 for 83) which made some wonder if he was ready to make the jump from Kingsport (R) straight to Low Class A Savannah and bypass Brooklyn (A-) all together.

But with the change in the calender, he has turned it around and in just four games in May he is batting .333. Actually in his last 10 games, he is batting .367 (11 for 30) with six runs scored, five doubles, an RBI and six walks. He also has hit safely in 7 out of 10 games and has six multi-hit games in the span.

During Smith’s recent surge he has helped the Sand Gnats to an 8-3 record as they remain in first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division and lead by 3.5 games.
