Kevin Plawecki ended the month of April batting just .250, with no home runs and three runs batted in. But the first week in May he has started to hit and it shows as he is batting .393 (11 for 28) and has a seven game hit streak. In Fridays game, he hit his first home run on the season and drove in three runs.

The catching prospect, shared time between Savannah (A) and St. Lucie (A+) in 2013 and in 449 at bats he hit .305, with 38 doubles, eight home runs and 80 runs batted in. In his first spring training with the Mets in February, he appeared in five games and was 2 for 4, with a double, two RBI’s, and two walks.

Plawecki, 23, is #7 on the Mets top prospect list and can be on a fast track to the big leagues if he continues to show that he can hit and get on base. There is no telling what kind of player Travis d’Arnaud will become, but in a few years if he isn’t what the Mets expected, then Plawecki can move right in to that role.

What the Mets have lacked since the departure of Mike Piazza, is a catcher that can actually hit with power and make things happen, and so far Plawecki has proven that in his brief minor league career.  So the key will be if he can continue the trend and grow into a big league catcher. The future is bright for the catching prospect.
