Las Vegas (10-10) 14, Tacoma 6 Box Score

The 51s offense scored 11 runs in the first two innings and never  looked back on their way to their fourth straight win. Gavin Cecchini was 4 for 5 with three RBI, run scored and his second double of the season. Brandon Nimmo reached base three times (2 BB, single) for the second straight night. Our own Jennifer Nieves was at the game and you can read her full recap here.

Binghamton (10-9) 4, New Hampshire 1 Box Score

Dominic Smith hit a two-run homer to left field in the first inning and that is all the B-Mets pitching staff would need as Rainy Lara and Beck Wheeler combined on a two-hitter. Smith also walked as he extended his hitting streak to eight games, he has raised his average from .174 to .282 during that span. He didn’t hit hit second homer of 2015 until June 8th.

Smith is now hitting .282/.325/.449 on the season and is now tied for third in the Eastern League with his 16 RBI. Maikis De La Cruz, Niuman Romero and Matt Oberste all had two hits on the night.

B-Mets starter, Lara, was a strike throwing machine needing only 79 pitches (50 strikes) to get through seven innings. The only hit he allowed was a solo homer to the powerful bat of Rowdy Tellez. He moved to 2-2 on the season while lowering his ERA to 3.47. Beck Wheeler pitched two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts to pick up his second save of the season.

Palm Beach 3, St. Lucie (13-9) 1 Box Score

The Mets pitching staff didn’t allow a run after the second inning but the offense struggled leaving six men on base and hitting into three double plays. Starter Ricky Knapp settled in after a rough start, he went 6.1 innings allwing three runs on six hits (HR) and two walks. He struck out four and suffered his first loss of the season (3-1) while seeing his ERA jump to 2.38.

Kevin McGowan threw 1.2 perfect innings with one strikeout, he hasn’t allowed a run over his last 11.1 innings. Corey Taylor gave up three hits in the ninth inning but struck out two and picked off a runner to keep the game at 3-1. He has a 2.16 ERA for the year despite a 1.44 WHIP.

Wuilmer Becerra led the offense going 2 for 4 and knocked in the Mets only run. He has reached base 11 times over the past five games and is now hitting .345/.390/.418 for the year. He continues to be the designated hitter though as he is resting a sore shoulder. Catcher Tomas Nido collected two hits to lift his average up to .317 and 20-year old outfielder Raphael Ramirez (1-3) picked up his first Florida State League hit.

Amed Rosario was just 1 for 4 on the night with his third double of the season. He is still batting .319/.347/.560 and earlier in the day was placed atop Baseball America’s Hot Sheet. Champ Stuart missed his second straight game with the flu.

Columbia (13-9) 9, Kannapolis 2 Box Score

Fireflies third baseman David Thompson padded his all of baseball leading RBI count with two more last night that gives him 27 on the season. He also hit his 9th double which is tied for the second most in the South Atlantic League. The right-handed hitter is now 14 for 29 with 23 RBI when hitting with runners in scoring position.

First baseman Jeffrey Diehl reached base three times including a solo homer, his team leading third of the season. Vicente Lupo took advantage of a rare start by going 2 for 3 with three RBI, walk, run scored and his first triple of the season. Vinny Siena went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts to snap his 21-game streak of reaching base.

Columbia starter Kevin Canelon picked up his first win of the season after going six innings of two-run ball. He struck out only two but did not talk a batter. For the season he has walked five batters compared to 21 strikeouts. Reliever Craig Missigman ( 2 IP) and Nicco Blank ( 1 IP) combined to throw three scoreless innings to finish the win out.
