Altoona Curve 6 @ Binghamton Mets (16-21) 1

BOX SCORE

The Binghamton Mets lost the second game of the series against the Altoona Curve 6-1.

Andrew Barbosa got the start and allowed a first inning run. He went three innings allowing that first inning run on three hits and three walks, with no strikeouts. Unfortunately, he would leave the game after throwing only two pitches in the fourth inning with tightness in his lat. He is currently listed as day-to-day.

In the bottom of the fourth, Binghamton tied the game at one after a Victor Cruzado sac fly scored Dominic Smith. The first baseman went 0 for 3 with a walk and the run scored.

Kelly Secrest pitched two good innings before losing it in the sixth. He allowed three runs (two earned) in 2.1 innings total. Mike Hepple came in after Secrest, who got just one out in the sixth. Hepple allowed an inherited runner to score and one run of his own in the sixth. He allowed another run in the seventh and saw his ERA jump to 4.76 on the season.  He has allowed a run in four of his last five outings.

Beck Wheeler and Akeel Morris both had scoreless innings. Morris has not allowed a run in his last seven games.

On the offensive side, Binghamton had only four hits. Maikis De La Cruz had two hit while Jared King and Xorge Carrillo each had one.

Injury Note: B-Mets ace Robert Gsellman is expected to come off the disabled list and his next start on Saturday. Infielder Phillip Evans hasn’t played since suffering a leg injury on Sunday. The B-Mets bench is already playing short because infielder Niuman Romero was officially promoted to the Las Vegas 51s on Wednesday.

St. Lucie Mets 3 (21-17), Clearwater Threshers 0 G1

BOX SCORE

The St. Lucie Mets won the first game of the doubleheader against the Clearwater Threshers 3-0 behind a tremendous start by Ricky Knapp. He went the full seven innings for a complete game shutout. He allowed just three hits, two of them to Zach Green. He walked none and struck out four. Knapp improved to 4-2 with a 1.96 ERA for the season.

St. Lucie scored one in the first, one in the second and one in the sixth. In the first Champ Stuart hit a double to lead off the inning. Luis Guillorme bunted him over and Amed Rosario drove in Stuart with a RBI single. It was Rosario’s 27th RBI of the season which is the second most in the Florida State League.

In the second, Tomas Nido hit his 11th double of the season to lead off the inning. Two batters later Patrick Biondi, hit a RBI single to stretch the lead to 2-0.

With two outs in the sixth, Nido walked, John Mora doubled moving Nido to third and Jhoan Urena hit a RBI single to make it 3-0. On that base hit, Mora tried to score but was thrown out at the plate.

That was more than what Knapp needed as he worked out of a bases loaded gem in the seventh to get the complete game shutout. He got 11 ground outs to only one fly out.

McGowan was ejected in the fifth together with pitching coach Marc Valdez after arguing balls and strikes. McGowan lowered his ERA to 1.29 and has allowed only one run in his last 19.1 innings pitched.

After McGowan was ejected, Cory Taylor came in to pitch 1.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit lowering his ERA to 1.15, as he allowed just two earned runs in his last 13.2 innings.

After a 6-0 deficit the FireFlies came back to 6-3 with one run in the third, fourth and sixth. In the third David Thompson drove in his 39th run with his 14th double scoring Vicente Lupo.
